2122.0. "Why do I confine thee? Let me count the reasons." by VIDEO::TAYLOR (Cat lovers are a special breed.) Sun Jan 08 1989 17:44

    1. YOur life is too precious to allow you to run in front of a
    speeding, careless, or driver-influenced vehicle.

    2. You are too valuable as a member of our family to all a predator
to rip you to shredds or to run the risk of having you mutilated
    in a cruel trap.

    3. Your good health is important to me and I know there are many
diseases that will harm you or even kill you outdoors.

    4. Because I love you enough to neuter you there is no need for
you to wander in search of a mating situation that could cause you
harm or make you a nuisance to others.

    5. There is no need to go to a tree to exercise your claws and
muscles because I have included in my budged a carped indoor climbing
tree that is all your own.

    6. There is no need to hunt for your food because my paycheck has
included food from the market for you.

    7. When you are close to me I can hear you purr and know when you
    are happy.

    8. You comfort me and love me on my good days and on my worst days.
You are waiting for me whenever I come back from work or shopping
and I am peaceful because I know you are safe.

    9. We are such good friends I know when you are hurt and need to
see the doctor. Next to me, your veterinarian in your best friend.

    10. When the end of the day comes and it is time to curl up next
to the fire with a good book, there is no need to wonder where you
are because you are right there in my lap.

I want to know how you can read with the kitty's in your lap (most
likely on top of the book) like my three kitty's.

With one kitty on your lap, reading's a cinch. Try it with one kitty
on your lap, one kitty on your legs, one kitty on your shoulders,
and one kitty trying to sit on the book!

Reading with a kitty on your lap in a breeze *until* you want to
    turn the page.

.... boy mom, batting this page back is fun!!!!!

Beautiful reasons, Holly. Never mind reading a book ...
have you ever tried writing out checks (to pay bills)
with your furface on your lap, slapping and grabbing
at your pen? Talk about hieroglyphics!

I'd *much rather* hold his gorgeous purring body than
    pay bills anyhow!

    under it.

2122.7DON'T MOVE MOM! YOU'RE SICK!VIDEO::TAYLORCat lovers are a special breed.Mon Jan 09 1989 17:559
Since I have been out sick for the last few days, I've had a lot
of time to read. Well, all of my kitties like to play nursmaid.
One time while I was TRYING to read a very interesting book (at
least I think it was interesting, I didn't get to read much of it)
I had tabbatha and silver on my chest, seasea making herself into
a hat, pita on my stomach and micki laying right next to me. I couldn't
    MOVE!!!

When I was cross stitching a baby blanket for my sister, Trouble
used to love to lay *under* it on my lap, but she never (well seldom)
tried to play with the threads as they passed under the blanket.
    Now knitting a sweater, that's a different story. I guess that's
why it's taken me two years to make this silly thing. But we love
    them fur-faces anyway.

2122.9cross-stitch & kittyCIMNET::GLADDINGExactly the same but differentTue Jan 10 1989 10:227
The real trick to cross-stitching with a cat on your lap
is picking all the little kitty hairs out of your stitching!!
