2069.1 | They're no fun what so ever!! | VIDEO::TAYLOR | cat lovers are a special breed | Thu Dec 15 1988 16:25 | 6 |
| Scabies can be very serious. As many people in this file know,
Silver had them last summer. See note #1606.39 for some more details
on them.

2069.2 | | WITNES::MACONE | It's the story of a man named Brady | Thu Dec 15 1988 17:29 | 18 |
| Portia gets these scab things behind her ears since she is always
scratching her ears. My vet had given me some ointment for them
on one of my many vet trips. These scabs were not a problem until
one of them got pretty big, and Porty ripped it open while scratching,
and it caused this abcess like thing. Well, in the couple hours
of Porty ripping it open, me noticing it, and getting her to the
vet, this "thing" had gotten to the point where the vet had to drain
it and clean it out, etc. That was well over a month ago, and the
stupid thing still won't heal properly, and we are still on antibiotics
and ointments, etc. This is after 3 vet trips and over $100 (and
this is the vet who usually doesn't charge me for the second visit
with an existing problem).
I found it's usually cheaper to take care of something before it
becomes a problem. Your vet won't charge you that much if these
scabbies aren't a problem at all.

Well, we called the vet yesterday and my husband is taking Naomi at
3 o'clock this afternoon. I hope it isn't very serious. I'll let
you all know what happens.
Thanks again,
Carina
Nikki,
Naomi,

2069.4 | RESULTS | SALEM::FORTIN | | Fri Dec 16 1988 16:18 | 14 |
| We got the results from the vet. He couldn't find any mites or
anything on her, not even fleas. He believes that she is extremely
allergic to fleas and that even tho he could not find any on her,
a flea bite from 3 weeks ago could have caused such a reaction.
He gave us some flea powder and told us to do all three cats every
other day without fail. We also need to bomb the house. Thank
you for your help and suggestions. We greatly appreciate it.

Nikki,
Naomi,
Lyn.

2069.5 | Not a puncture wound? | MORGAN::MISSELHORN | | Fri Dec 16 1988 16:51 | 17 |
| Melody has scab like things all round her neck and the back of
her head too.
When one got infected last fall, I took her to the vet who said
that it was a puncture wound because she found the puncture marks.
That didn't seem so unusual since the two little kitties were
playing really rough with Melody at the time. (Neither of them
has ever had any of these scabs.)
Melody still gets them tho so maybe another trip to the vet is
in order.
As soon as the holiday rush is over, we'll go back and check it
out.
