2044.0. "Info about shelters needed" by PAR5::K_CIOFFI () Thu Dec 08 1988 08:54

I know a note about a rabbit doesn't belong in the "cat" note, but
I need some advice about shelters. I am also unable to access the
    Small_Animal note file.

We are moving in 3 weeks and have an indoor, litter-box-trained, gets-
    along-great-with-cats, well-behaved, just-sits-around-and-sleeps,
mini lop rabbit. Sasha is a male and neutered. I have to find
her (we thought he was a she when we first got "her") a home, or
put her in a shelter, and worse case put her down, before we move.

Does anyone know of a shelter that would be willing to take our
rabbit. She has always been indoors, caged when were not home and
at night, but otherwise lives like a "queen/king". I don't want
to put her down, so I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks,

    Karen

Could you tell us what town you are in? That way maybe some
of us are affiliated somehow with the shelter that services your
town and could find out for you.....

Yes, location is a good point. I live in Franklin, but would
be willing to drive an hour north to do the right thing for Sasha.

I have a neighbor who has a mini lop now. Lives in their house like
yours etc. My husband just went down to ask them if they would be
interested in having your also. Will let you know.

We live in Nashua, so presume you would deliver the rabbit here?

hope note #3 is successful. The access node to Small animals
was changed to IOALOT::SMALL_ANIMALS recently, maybe that's why
you were unable to access it - at least that why I had problems.

Anyway, another route might be to call the Framingham Dog Officer
    - ask for Jacki at 620-4870. Even tho Jacki is the dog officer,
sometimes they get other animals as well and advertise them in
its weekly slot in the Middlesenx News. Right now Framingham is
publishing that it has up for adoption 4 rats, at other times it
has listed rabbits, and cats. (Don't confuse this with the Framingham
Humane Society which right now deals mainly with cats ).

Another place to try would be the Hopkinton Humane Society - which
publishes the same time as Framingham and I believe they have
listed beside cats and dogs - chickens and I think rabbits too. They
are at 435-6938. I don't know anything about Hopkinton.

In any case, I would be SURE to ask about if there is a length of
tim they will keep an animal, will the rabbit have to be in the same
room with the dogs (they could stress him unduly) and also
how well do they screen the adopters. You might also try the Framingham
Humane Society as they take REAL good care of their animals.
They probably won't be able to take a rabbit becaue ethey
always seem full of cats but they
might know of someone who wants a trained rabbit.
Their number is 877-7131 or 877-0408.

Also you might try vets- sometimes they know of someone who would
love to have a rabbit. You can try my vet -which is the Framingham
Animal Hospital at 877-0900. Ask for Patti or Joy or Anne-Marie and
tell them Pat Daley said to call, tell them about your pet and
see if they know of anyone wanting to adopt a rabbit, and ask them
to be SURE to pass the message on to Dr. Nord and Dr Rabout
(pronounced Ra-bow) and Dr Herman - but especially be sure Dr. Nord
gets the message. Drs. Nord and Herman have found great homes for
animals - I know that personally.

Good luck. I know you will find a home for your friend. The waiting
    is just so frustrating tho.

Yes, I will deliver if this is a good match. Thanks for asking
    them.

re .4 Thanks for all the info. I'll let my fingers do the walking,
while keeping them crossed in hopes of finding a home for Sash.

If she doesn't go to Nashua, my sister will definately take her.
Mini lop rabbits are her favorite pet. She lets them have the run
of the house! I'm in TWO, so if you need my help, contact me.

If any of these offers don't work out, put an ad in:
    	TECHNO::CLASSIFIED_ADS

This is the notesfile classified ads, a very populare file that
    seems to get great response.

P.S. It could also be a good source for placing a homeless cat/kitten.

2044.10Still "interviewing"PAR5::K_CIOFFITue Dec 13 1988 13:179
    Hi Everyone,

I was out of the office for a couple of days. I still need a home
for Sasha, but have gotten to talk to a few interested people.
I need to do some follow-up on this interest now that I'm back in
the office. So, will let you all know the status. Until then,
any interested person can read all about Sasha in IOALOT::SMALL_ANIMALS
note ANIMALS FOR FREE, .21 or .22.

Well......I'm pleased to announce that (if all goes according to
plan) Sasha has a new home in NH. She will be living with 4 other
indoor minilops and one cat. The woman taking her *loves* minilops.
So after the initial *shock*/adjustment Sasha will be in bunny heaven
with her new brothers and sisters. She may even like her new home
    *better* than her present home!!

My heartfelt thanks to all of you fellow noters who are so kind
and loving to little furry friends, and their "parents".
