Dear E.T. - Yes, I realize you're right. The vet said to feed him
nothing and let him lick ice cubes. He wanted NO PART of
eating. God, how I sobbed. With the eye ointment running
from his eyes and while my hubby drove I held the carrier
and talked love words to Cocoa and Cocoa held out his two
paws between the carrier bars and I put my hand within his
paws and he tried to pull my hand and body into his cage
(no claws) and he cried and cried. When we got home I opened
his carrier and out he stumbled. Walking to Whiskie he tried
to smell her nose and she hissed and lashed out with her paw
hitting him in the face and he fell over onto the carpet.
I realize, of course, that Whiskie didn't know what was wrong
but, at that moment, I wanted to kill her for hurting her little
brother.
I took yesterday off, with an earache, and put up the Xmas tree.
Well *BELIEVE YOU AND ME* there's nothing wrong with him now.
Thank God. I haven't gotten back the diabetes test yet so please
keep your fingers crossed for him.
He still took quite a few naps yesterday but he has to stay inside
for 7 days. Don't know how we're going to manage that. He's so
fast and strong.

It sure can be hard to leave a kitty-friend at the vets, but I'm
glad you did. There are so many people out there who don't feel
obligated to neuter their male cats (or females for that matter)
and it just kills me when I hear about the number of cats and dogs
euthanized every year! Besides, an unneutered male goes out and
fights. You would end up with much higher vets bills than $130.
Good luck with the diabetes tests. We have four cats - the second
oldest who is 9 has been losing weight for the last year and 1/2.
Not alot, but steadily. By comparison the 11 year old is still
gaining a little at each checkup, which the vet says is normal.
He's concerned that Mao (the 9 yr old) is starting to develop heart
or kidney troubles, or diabetes. So far, other than a more cranky
disposition over the last year, she's showing no other symptoms.
I'm a little worried.
Good luck.

| 2042.2 | I bet he's glad to be home! | CUPMK::TRACHMAN | ZhivagoCats, Ltd..The Inn is Full..264-8298 | Wed Dec 07 1988 17:01 | 11 |
Hi BJ, glad thing are over with. They usually don't want
to eat, with the exception of a few of my hoard. one or
two of them came home very hungry and it was ok when they
ate. I usually leave them in the carrier until they can
walk straight - an hour or two for them to sleep it off.
The males take less time than the females because the
males are under anesthesia less time than the females.
Bet you are very glad it's over!

Thank you all for your words. He's great now ... had *SIX* balls
off the Xmas tree last night. The hard part is still not letting
him out for 7 days. This too shall pass!
