2040.1 | talk to Cindi | VIDEO::TAYLOR | Cat lovers are a special breed! | Wed Dec 07 1988 13:02 | 17 |
| Well, it really depends on what quality Persian you're looking for.
Usually a pet quality (I imagine that's what you're looking for)
would go for about $300-$400, depending on the breeder. If you're
still interested, give me a call and I can put you in touch with
some very reputable breeders.
Just in case you're wondering, a pet quality doesn't mean that there's
something wrong with the cat, just that it doesn't quite meet the
breed standards for whatever association the breeder is in. In
a persian it may be that their nose isn't set high enough, they
may have a kink in their tail, the color of their coat may not be
just right, or something else. I guess the best person to talk
to about Persians would be Cindi Gerry. She's a Dec employee.
She's on IAMOK::GERRY.

| I'm new to this conference too, and live in Arizona...but hopefully
this might help. Out here, Persians run from about $100-$250,
depending on if you get a registered one, if it's from the breeder,
and if it has papers or not. Your best bet is to try the want
ads in the paper, or call the listing in your area under the yellow
pages in the pet section for the names of breeders in your area.
I'd personally stay away from pet shops, only cause they usually
charge much higher prices.
Good Luck....Linda

| If you tell me where you are I"ll check the CAT FANCY & CATS Magazine
Breeder listings for you. Or if you have access to those mags you
can check yourself. DO NOT BUY FROM A PET STORE.

2040.4 | Yellow pages probably won't net you anything | YOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JO | | Tue Dec 13 1988 21:18 | 12 |
| You probably won't see many breeders listed in the yellow pages.
Most communities have an ordinance on the number of cats that a
family is allowed to have. Since most breeders have more than two
cats, they tend to not want to draw attention to themselves within
their community.
I second the idea to check Cats magazine and Cat Fancy. Also, ask
your vet, he may have clients that breed Persians. Also, tell us
where you are located and those of us that show could get you the
names of some breeders in your area.

2040.5 | Go to the cat show! | CRUISE::NDC | | Wed Dec 14 1988 13:56 | 6 |
| If you live in the Boston area you could go the the cat show at
the Quincy Armory this weekend. If you want directions, send mail.
You'd see some Persians for sure and there are frequently kittens
for sale at these shows.

2040.7 | Further directions to show | CRUISE::NDC | | Fri Dec 16 1988 07:42 | 13 |
| If you need more detailed directions send me mail before 4:00 today.
I used to live in Quincy and can provide landmarks and street names.
Also, two things are left out of the directions in 1093 -
1. You CAN NOT get to the Furnace Brook Parkway exit directly
from 128 South. At the bottom of 128 you must make a choice between
Route 3 North towards Boston and Route 3 South towards the cape.
Thats where 128 ends. You want to stay in the left two lanes towards
3 North. Furnace Brook Parkway is the 1st exit off of 3 North.
2. At the bottom of the exit ramp take a Right. The exit ramp
dumps you into a rotary, but you're going to take a right before
you really get into it. You'll pass between two gas stations just
before you come to the first set of lights.
