    Since I just went through this, I guess the best advice would be
    to find a good veterinarian from friends or others in this notesfile.
    When I brought my kitten in, I told them to do whatever needed to
    be done. This included a general checkup, vaccines, worming medicine
    (bring in a stool sample for them to examine), flea bath (if needed),
    and vitamins (if needed). A trustworthy vet will do all the kittens
    need without having to worry that he/she is taking advantage of
    you.

| 2028.2 | Let's see...three shots for 4 kittens at n$$$... | CLUSTA::TAMIR | ACMS design while-u-wait | Mon Dec 05 1988 11:43 | 19 |
| | Kittens need a series of three shots. The first is usually done
    at 6-8 weeks, the second and third are at 1 month intervals from
    the first. At 6 weeks, mine didn't have stools to look at, so those
    came during the second visit. Roundworms were detected and they
    all got medicated (easy and very cheap). The babies loose the immunity
    the Mom gives them around 6-8 weeks, so it's important to get them
    the shots immediately. That guy was a jerk for lying to you, but
    at least he had the guts to fess up!

    My vet has given me health records for my kittens indicating what
    they received and when. These went along with the kittens to their
    new homes (two down, two to go!).

    Don't forget the stool specimen...it's a safe bet they've got
    something! My vet said that 80% of non-cattery raised kittens have
    some form of worms (ughhhhh).

| 2028.3 | 4-way shots | FSHQA2::RWAXMAN | A Cat Makes a Purrfect Friend | Mon Dec 05 1988 12:58 | 8 |
| | Regarding shots: My new kittens received a series of (2) 4-way
    shots. A lot of vets are vaccinating for chlymadia now, in addition
    to distemper, rhinotrachetis, and calicivirus. I believe the breeder
    gave the shots at 8 and 12 weeks. I think chlymadia is another
    form of upper respiratory.
