My cat Smurf has the "trots". He had them once on Tues, Wed, not
Thurs. one regular movement today and then the trots again. He
is eating and acting normal except he seems upset. My question
is can nerves make a cat get (I will call it "D")?? I know when
I moved to Florida on the trip down he had it about 3 months ago
and then 1 time 2 months ago for a day and now this time. I had
to shut him in a carrying case for 3-4 hours on Monday while we
had a room painted and then had to close our screened in porch
(this is where he spends all his time and gets very upset when he
cant go out there) and its been closed all week. He seems very
unhappy but does not seem sick at all. He never had this before
moving down here. He also has what the vet called neurodermatitis
(little bumps that make him scratch at himself) which he never had
before coming here. I guess I'm wondering if the "D" could be
caused by being nervous?? Also when I looked at the "D" I noticed
that some of them looked like hairballs - can that cause it too?
I don't want to run to the vet yet as he really doesnt seem sick.

Could there have been something in the paint fumes that made him
sick?
Just a thought,

Yup, stress or nerves can cause The Big D. It does with my Honey,
who gets stressed out when Mommy has to travel so much and strange
people and cats invade his space. I really think a trip to the
vet is in order as The Big D can dehydrate him and rob his body
of nutrients. It also might not be stress that's causing the problem.
Take the boy and a baggie of The Big D to the vet. He or she will
make sure there's no blood in the stool and will most likely give
you medication to stop The Big D before it gets any worse.

If it's hairballs, you would also want to get some type of hairball
medication from your vet also.
If I were you, I'd line my car with garbage bags on the way to the
vet.
