2017.0. "Could be winter weight increase" by MDA::NEWSTED () Thu Dec 01 1988 12:24

    Hi Mechele,

    If Nippa weighs 10-12 lbs and is outdoor/active, her overeating
    right now may not be cause for alarm. It's a known fact that a
    cat's ( especially the active cat ) appetite increases, as will
    it's weight right before/during the winter months. Invariably
    every year I increase my cat's food quota. Here's what my 10
    pounder is eating these days, no, inhaling. 1/2 can of wet food
    in AM, along with 1/2 pouch of tender vittles. ( moist ) about
    1/2 cup of dry food like Crave. Repeat in evening; snack with
    more Crave at night. She's not overweight and eats every morsel.
    The kitten, of eight months, now eats close to that or sometimes
    more! It's doubled since say,,,august.

    I worm her regurlarly ( when necessary ) But as always, its a
    possibility that she could have them, there's only one way to
    find out,,bring that sample in !

    Good luck, Nancy Newsted ( the portrait lady -:) ps - its coming
    nicely!

2017.1they have to eat more in winter to grow fur to shed in springCUPMK::TRACHMANZhivagoCats, Ltd..The Inn is Full..264-8298Thu Dec 01 1988 13:399
    I agree with Nancy - my crew always almost double their intake
    in cold months! I find that when the little piglets reach about
    18 months to 2 years, they seem to steady out what they eat.
    If you keep your house very warm, maybe with a wood stove,
    the cats may be fooled into thinking that it's not cold
    outside yet and their intake doesn't increase dramatically
    as it would when winter approaches.

2017.2this was intended as a reply to 2009!MDA::NEWSTEDFri Dec 02 1988 16:2814

    The base note: 2017 was accidently entered with the WRITE command
    rather that the REPLY that I should have used, I had intended to
    reply to note 2009 about overeating and worms. So, if the title
    and subject seem a little disjointed, this is why! Sorry for the
    goof-up!

    Although, Cats winter-weight gain is a subject in itself. It's
    getting rediculous, I'b buying the big bags instead of the boxes
    of dry food now!
