| I had read something about this topic in my local newspaper afew
weeks ago. All the article mainly said was that the cats were being
stolen for their coats - ie cats with glossy, nicely patterned coats.
Unfortunately the article didn't mention anything about the questions
you ask.
I also find it despicable that people would walk around in cat skins,
never mind mink skins, racoon skins, rabbit skins, fox skins, etc.

| Humm... How about going over there and harvesting people skins.....
I hope that someone will act to outlaw that kind of thing.

| From my recollection, the people who actually wear the cat fur coats (and
thereby stimulate the demand for cat pelts) are German men.
Does anyone in Germany who reads this file wish to comment? Are such coats
a common sight? They must be bearing in mind the number of cats here that
go "missing".
I got a cat recently from the Cat's Protection League, and was advised to keep
it indoors at night to avoid theft (hence my reason for entering this topic).
The CPL people said that because the cat is all white it would be particularly
attractive to the fur thieves.

Hi everyone...
Regarding the use of cat pelts to outfit German men...
I, for one, have not seen many men here in Munich wearing fur coats
of any kind, never mind what could be a cat fur coat... this may
be due to Munich being a very highly paid (and expensive) area and
therefore that men can afford better/more expensive outfits but
I believe more due to the concern most Germans (at least those I
have met) have for pets... and as for fur coats for women...
there are many 'normal' fur shops still in business selling expensive
'normal' furs that I think the women here would not be seen dead in such
a coat...

| I can't believe anyone would wear such an item, of all the worries
I had anticipated for my Gilbert and Sullivan that thought had never
entered my mind. I find it amazing to what depths some people will
go. I don't wear any furs myself, but the idea of kitty skinned
coats is very disturbing! Not to mention that they would actually
be stolen from people who love them instead of, if you will pardon
such an idea... cat farms like they have for minks an other animals
raised just for their fur.
Simply amazing...
