1998.0. "Hopeful souls PLEASE REPLY" by MDA::NEWSTED () Mon Nov 28 1988 11:55

Over the holiday weekend, my husband and I went up to our
cottage in Maine with my Sister and her hub. They brought their
animals with them as they usually do. Bucca and Tig ( cats )
have been up there before many times and usually stay around...
Saturday night we heard one of them meowing fiercly and went out
side to discover that she ( Bucca ) had made her way across the
lake to the opposite shore on the ice. She must have walked
along the shore to where there wasn't any ice because she was afraid
to come back. We saw her over there with the flashlight ( there
were no roads into the opposite shore woods )and she was oviously
frightened. I guess my sister trusted that she'd find her way back
eventually having gotten herself across. So everyone went to bed.
Next morning at first light we put the canoe in down stream and
got through the ice to the other shore, but no Bucca. I was horrified
when I saw how THIN that ice really was, even though just close
by it was thick enough to support a man. I just don't know. We
spent sunday combing the woods, calling and calling, to no avail.
So, I would say that Bucca could use a few prayers. If she walked
the shoreline all night, she could be anywhere in the Acton/Sanford
Maine area. They stayed on an extra day, I have no news yet but
they have contacted all the propper authorities in the area.
It's not a good situation. So please say a prayer for Bucca.
If she survived, hopefully someone will take her in through the
cold months. I sure we will spend more weekends searching.

Saturday night, we all thought it too dangerous to drop a canoe into
a half-frozen unstable lake in the pitch black...

Bucca will be just fine .... I swear I can see her still alive
and she'll come back to the cottage. I'll pray a few for her.

We let our almost 6 mo. old Cocoa out this am at 5:45. We
called for him 1/2 hr. later and he didn't come. He always
comes when called. Another 1/2 hr. later he came onto the
back deck soaking wet. It hadn't been raining and my husband
saw the *matted, ugly* mail that's always rummaging our back
yard a little earlier. We have a pond in the middle of our
Mobile home park and we surmised that Cocoa had gone into
the pond to get away from the *mangy* one. They always
find a way to come back to the ones who desparately love them...
So-o-o-o-o ..... Bucca will come home.

I'm hoping for you that Bucca will return.

We lost Portia Thnksgiving morning. I had put her out at her wishes
in the middle of the night, and she didn't come home in the morning.

We finally found her around noontime -- right before I was about
to cancel out on Thanksgiving dinner. She ahd worked her way in
to the cellar - but because of the screen, she couldn't climb jump
    back out.

Cats are smart. Portia was just looking for a place to get her
out of the cold. I'm sure Bucca has just done the same.
