1997.0. "Abandoned Kitty needs a home" by NSG022::POIRIER (Shopping's done already!) Mon Nov 28 1988 10:03

    Hello Feliners,

It is Thanksgiving today, and I am giving thanks that my kitties are
safe and warm. But I have sad news and I need your help. I talked
with my mom today - she is a realtor - at one of the homes she has
shown a couple of times, there is an abandoned kitty. She thinks it was
left by the owners. Last time she showed the house she brought her
food. So, feeling badly we went over to see if we could help this
kitty. We brought her some wet food. As soon as we stepped out of the
car she came running from behind the bushes, meowing and purring. She
is very loveable and adorable. Someone left her a 10 lb bag of food
with a small opening. We filled a dish with water for her and gave her
some wet food. My husband and I will try to go over every day to feed
her, fill her water and give her some attention.

This small female kitty is in need of a home. She is a torti, with
fluffy, long hair and is located in Amherst, NH. I will help as much
as I can to help defer any vet costs. If I don't have any requests I
will bring her to a shelter - any thoughts on a local non-kill shelter.
Thanks very much. Sorry for the bad news - I hope we can help this poor
kitty. It is getting too cold!

1997.1Abandoned kitty updateNSG022::POIRIERShopping's done already!Mon Nov 28 1988 12:2018

    Hello again!

I have an update - we went to visit the kitty again Saturday. She is
so friendly - we fed her and pet her and she settled down in my lap for
a nap. When I picked her up before we left I noticed her nipples were
swollen and her belly seems hard. I have never had a pregnant cat
before so I wasn't sure what signs to look for to see if she just had
kittens or could be pregnant. I am going to get in touch with my vet
on Monday and see what we can work out for a checkup.

She is a beautiful cat! Please if you know anyone who would like to
give her a home - even a temporary one - please let me know. Thank
    you,

    Suzanne

1997.2Vet appointment todayNSG022::POIRIERShopping's done already!Mon Nov 28 1988 12:249
I just talked to the vet today - she is going to take a look at the
kitty to figure out age, health, and whether or not she is pregnant
today at 2:30. My husband is taking the afternoon off to go get her
and bring her in. What we will do afterwards we still haven't figured
out yet. I will keep you up to date - for anyone interested.

1997.3Nashua Humane SocietyNSG022::POIRIERHappy Holidays!Mon Nov 28 1988 12:5912
I just talked with the Nashua Humane society about taking our abandoned
kitty - (we haven't named her yet). They will take her in and put
her up for adoption - there is no time limit as to how long they
will keep them. If however they have a severe crowding problem
they will euthanize. The woman that I spoke with says she has been
there 4 months and this has never happened - but that doesn't make
me feel to comfortable with their policy. With my luck I will drop
off this sweet kitty and next week 500 other people will too.
Well, we will do nothing until we find out her health situation
    this afternoon.

Is there any way of getting in touch with the owners of the house? If
your mother is trying to sell the house, then obviously the cat belongs
to them. They may have lost her.... or, they may not want her. If
they don't want her, they might willingly provide the cats vet records,
or the vets name, so you don't need to redo the shots and such.

1997.5No one claims responsibility for herNSG022::POIRIERHappy Holidays!Mon Nov 28 1988 13:1015
According to the last person who lived there - she is not her cat.
She said she showed up as a kitten and she fed her. When she moved
out she felt she was not responsible for the cat and left her behind.
Nice person huh! I have a feeling this cat was dropped off there
to be a barn cat - the yard is huge with a big barn on the side
of the house. It's pretty much hicksville in this area.

So, no history and no one to claim her. I wish there were previous
owners - I would give them a piece of my mind. So I really don't know
her history that well - this woman was pretty vague according to my
mom. For all I know she has been pretty much an outdoor barn cat - but
she doesn't seem like one. She loves people and attention and is very
well behaved. And did I say beautiful!

Well, unfortunately my husband couldn't find the kitty today...so
we missed our appointment. We are going to try again Friday afternoon.
All I can think is that she must be in hiding because of the rain,
because everytime some one goes there she comes running out to greet
    them.

    Thanks for listening,

I was feeling terrible because I couldn't help Black Thunder's Auntie
Sue but after reading reply .8, I am feeling a *little* better.
I just wanted to pick up that little beauty and cuddle her and keep
her warm. Of course, Black Thunder would have enjoyed a new friend
but I don't know about the others.

I am *so glad* that these people will give the little beauty a warm

Becky and I just talked about giving the kitty a home. Everything
depends on her checkup on Friday and whether or not she is pregnant.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Her son sounds like the right kind
of person to give her lots of TLC.

This abandonned kitty is still available. Things did not work out
with Becky. So in the meantime we have named her Sweetie - she
is such a sweet heart. We brought her to the vet today - shthe
vet thinks she is about 2 years old. We had a FELV test done and
we shall have the results on Monday. She also had a rabies shot.
The vet said she may be pregnant - but if she was it was early enough
in the pregnancy to spay her. We are going to try to have her spayed
next week. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE THIS SWEET LOVING CAT PLEASE LET
ME KNOW ASAP! She is such a doll - she just purred her way the
whole vet visit - she loves to have her belly scratched.

Feel free to send mail - call DTN 264 - 2951 or call me at home
at (603)424-1713. Please help me help this cat.

P.S Sweetie is staying in my basement until we can find her a loving
home. I know it is not the best place to live but it is better
than living in the freezing cold! So placing her is a matter of
urgency!!!!! Our two kitties cannot use their playground down there

We found out last night that Sweeties FELV test is negative - YEA!
Now we just need to find her a good home. Does anyone know a local
place that does discount spaying - or perhaps one of those coupons.
Sweetie will be very expensive to spay since she is two years old
    and is most likely pregnant.

    RE: An update

For an update on Sweetie - the name is perfect. She is a real sweetie.
So far she seems content in our basement - I think she is just happy to
have a warm place to sleep and plenty of food. Most of the time when
we go to visit her she is snoozing on the couch - catching up on some
needed shut eye. As soon as she sees us - she starts chattering. She
loves attention! She has also used the temporary litter box flawlessly.
Tonight we are going to give her a bath and make her all pretty! She
still needs a home for anyone interested!!!!!!!!!!! She is a beautiful
long haired calico with huge paws - I think she is double pawed. She
is almost all black with white and ginger patches.

    Thanks,

    Kim,

Could you possibly send me that Women's Humane League info.
Also, do you know if they will still spay her if she could possibly
be pregnant. I just talked to my vet - yuck - for a mature cat
to be spayed is $68.50 - if it turns out that she is pregnant it
is another $26.50. I'd like to have my vet do it - because I have
had such good luck with them - but I need to find something a bit
more reasonably priced at this time of year. And time is of the
essence - if she is pregnant they want to spay her in the early
stages - it is less risky. I'd appreciate that info.

    Thanks,

you want something quick you get this!!! I already tried directory
assistance and they're not listed. Do they have a phone? I have
no idea. The only other thing I can do is call Nashua Humane this
afternoon and see if they have a number. If we can't make this
work then lets do it and I'll pay half of the vet bill. It'll be
my Christmas present to the lost orphan and then we'll just have
to find her a home :^). If I can't take her (like I'd love too
I have two calico sisters at home!!) then I can help her :^).
I'll let you know if I can get a number and if you want to go ahead
and make her appointment with your vet just let me know what it
comes up too. On second thoughts I guess I can figure that out

    Suzanne,

I want so much to take her too, but unfortunately I just can't afford
it. I know kitties don't cost a lot but with Keisha on permanent
medicine and three kitties already, i just can't.

    But ----

Seeing you are Black Thunder's aunt, I would like to make a donation
to help defray the cost. I don't have your address (silly me, I
lost it) to send the money to.

As to finding her a home, *someone* was saying that they want a
kitty. I am racking my brains trying to remember who. I had
already told them about Felines and they were going to get back
to me with info as to their requirements. When they told me they
wanted a kitty I immediately thought of this one but, at the time,
I thought it had a home.

I wish I could do more but ------------.

Please send or write your address so I can send a donation.

1997.24Kitty Angels - sent from heavenNSG022::POIRIERHappy Holidays!Wed Dec 07 1988 20:4020
I talked with my vet today - the earliest they can take Sweetie
is on Friday the 16th. The vet will also test her stool for worms
and give her medicine for ear mites.

I do have some good news - not a permanent home yet but - I spoke
with Joan from Kitty Angels in Tyngsborough. If I do not place
Sweetie by December 20th Joan said she would take her in to her
shelter. This is a no-kill shelter. She is extremely nice,
and was very helpful and encouraging. Even if I do place Sweetie
I plan on visiting Joan on the 21st of December. I asked her if
there was anything she needed and she said the usual - food and
litter. So if anyone would like to help this woman out - she runs
this shelter out of her home - please let me know and I will bring
    the stuff down for you.

Well I feel much better knowing there is a place for Sweetie if
we don't find her a permanent home. It will break my heart to part
with her - she is such a SWEETIE.

1997.25Sweetie has a home for Christmas!NSG022::POIRIERHappy Holidays!Mon Dec 12 1988 08:1020
The best Christmas present I could ask for - Sweetie has a home!
Saturday I called a friend to tell her I probably wouldn't be able
to come to her Christmas party on the 21'st because if I didn't
place Sweetie I would be bringing her to kitty angels that night.
I told her the whole Sweetie story and she said "I'll take her -
I was going to get myself a cat for Christmas out of a local shelter."
So we both laughed and cried and said it was the best Christmas
present either of us could ask for! I went and told Sweetie and
she just rolled over as usual and said rub my tummy.

So Sweetie gets spayed on the 16th and goes to her new home on the
21st. Thanks everyone for all of your help and support.

Boy, landlords can be the pitts, huh?
Friends of mine once had a landlord who wouldn't let them have
cats because he thought they'd scratch up the wood floors.
Shows how much he knew about them.

Of course, the last landlord we had let us have three cats and
a waterbed, so they're not all bad.
Good Luck with Sweetie. Too bad your friend can't move to a

OK, OK, OK, so you all talked me into it - I decided to take
the plunge and adopt Sweetie. Don't ask me why I'm such a
glutton for punishment, what with the holidays coming up,
trying to get two other cats to get used to a newcomer, etc,
etc, but she just won me over!

Suzanne will deliver Sweetie to my door next Tuesday - I can't
wait! From her description, she seems like the cuddliest,
prettiest, most affectionate cat. Just hope my other two think
    so too!!

My current cats are neutered, indoor-only males. I'm hoping
Sweetie will adjust to being indoor-only, and hopefully we won't
have any knock-down, drag-out fights - don't want to come home

Hi Holly - yes I remember you! How is the new (well, now, not
    so new) job going?

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed too.
I'm also glad for Suzanne - she's done so much for Sweetie already.

This new addition will certainly make our Christmas merrier!

I just talked to the vet's office - Sweetie is doing fine, but a
bit groggy. We will be picking her up at 3:00 and giving her lots
of attention tonight. She is looking forward to having a home of
her own on Tuesday - Thanks to Pam. She told me with her eyes it
    was a wonderful Christmas present.

Will keep you all up to date...

1997.39Sweetie leaves today...NSG022::POIRIERHappy Holidays!Tue Dec 20 1988 10:0915
Well today is the day Sweetie goes to her new home! She had a speedy
recovery from her spaying and is back to normal. She had earmites,
expected, and digestion problems due to hair balls so she is taking
liver flavored laxatone - she just loves the stuff. I know she
is back to normal because I cannot keep any ornaments on the tree
    downstairs!!

Thanks to Pam for giving her a loving home - she cannot wait - she
needs the attention! THanks to those who helped with the vet costs
    - it couldn't have happened without you - and I have special permission
from Pam to remain her "aunts" - sort of an extended family!

I'm sure going to miss Sweetie but I know she'll love her new home.

    Suzanne
