| Hi Chris,
I know lots of folks that have both dogs and cats. Years ago,
my family always had both. It would be nice if when you got
the kitten, you could be around for a few days to be sure that
the dog get along with it ok. One of my friends in Hudson NH
is a breeder (cat) and has two dogs - a dobie and a little
tiny thing - she has no problems at all. The dog would probably
think you got her a new toy!

| My Keisha ( a 100 LB Huge Samoyed) just loves it when we bring a
new kitten home. She gets to play *mother*. She is 12 years old
and has NEVER hurt one of them. She does warn them when they are
doing something she doesn't like but thats it.
How is your dog with other cats? Have you tried bringing other
cats into your home area. Have you brought your dog to a friends
house that has cats??

| Chris my situation was the opposite of yours, we had our cat first.
Any way I had gotten Kitty when I was living in an apartment and
then after a little more than a year we moved into our own house.
Well needless to say Kitty got lots and lots of attention from both
my husband and I , she was our baby. Well than I decided I wanted
a dog (not puppy). Went to the Buddy dog and fell inlove with a
pikeneese(sp). Well needless to say right on toto's papers it said
she chased cats but I wanted her. Well to make a long short Kitty
ran upstairs and stayed there for 4 days. If she did wander down
Toto would bark at her and chase and she would run back upstairs.
Well I said this has got to cease, I brought Kitty down stairs closed
all the doors so she had to stay in the kitchen and the living room.
Then said go ahead have a downey brook well it took about 3 days
of
listening to this hissing and growling and barking but you what
they now sleep together, eat together, chase each other all over
the house like two idiots and are the best of friends. It just takes
some time and patience. But I have a surprise for both of them Thursday
night because we are taking in another cat. I will introduce her
to you all after I meet her and decide on a name. All I KNOW ABOUT
HER (whoops hit the cap key) is she was found in East Douglas in
the woods starving, she gray and has long hair. So Chris anyway
go for it they'll settle their differences in their on way and time.
