1968.1 | Do try and call another vet | CUPMK::TRACHMAN | ZhivagoCats, Ltd..The Inn is Full..264-8298 | Tue Nov 15 1988 09:57 | 20 |
| Hi,
I would try another vet as soon as possible. Yes, try some
baby food - eating and drinking is VERY important. Continue
the amoxy - offer food as often as she will take it - try
tuna or anything that will tempt her to eat. She may also
be having a reaction to the shots she had recently. I
would ask the vet to give her an injection of antibiotic
for faster action - but continue with either the drops
or pills that you have.
To take her temp, use a rectal thermometer - have your vet
(the new one preferably) show you the correct method and
maybe try it in his/her office so you will feel more
comfortable about doing it at home yourself.
Do give someone else a call and see if you can bring her in
tonight - you and the kitty will feel much better!

Sherry,
I'm always frantic when one of our kitties even acts different,
so I understand how you feel.
I read through your Note 1005 (which made me teary even tho
it was almost a year ago) and it seem like what Cricket went through
would be a hard thing for any vet to diagnose. However, just for
info, we go to Dr. Gail McNeill (McNeill Veterinary Clinic) in
Sudbury and are very satisfied with her. It took me a while to
get used to her style because sometimes her kids (all under 4) are
in the exam room playing at the same time. What I do like is her
attitude toward the animals and her knowledge. She treats them
like people too--at least she always has with my girls.
There is always Angell Memorial in Jamaica Plain, one of the
most famous animal hospitals. I know people who wouldn't take their
animals anywhere else no matter where they live! (Tufts Veterinary
Hospital is in the same league, I hear.)
Our fingers are crossed and prayers said for Rosie--keep us
posted.

He did give her a shot yesterday. She seems to feel a little
better this morning, ate some canned food. One thing I forgot
to mention is she has gingivitis, which is what I thought was
making her not want to eat. I wanted him to scale her teeth
(ie today) before I knew she had a temp, too. I'll try to call
another vet, hopefully I can get an appt tonight....

| Glad to hear she is better !! As long as she is eating, that's
a good sign. If you are not comfortable with your vet, try
another. Follow your instincts when it comes to stuff like
that. Hang in there - kitties are strong creatures!!

1968.5 | Sorry to hear about Rosie! | FREKE::HUTCHINS | Feathered Obsessions Aviary | Tue Nov 15 1988 11:18 | 16 |
| So sorry to hear Rosie is not feeling well. If her vaccine was
a modified live virus...it could me a minor reaction. To take the
temp, use a rectal thermometer and lubricate it well and just insert
it gently...wait 5 minutes before reading it. Normal temp is 102.5.
And just a note...don't kick yourself for not having a FeLV (leukemia)
shot, it will only protect against the virus...it will not eliminate
the virus if she were affected...
Let us know what the new vet says! My favorite is Dr. Holub in
Chelmsford...256-9555.
Best of luck to you both!

it's being VERY SMART!
Good Luck and let us know how Rosie is feeling.

| My boss has gotten used to our animal stories. She handles it quite
well these days. When one of my cats died a few years ago, I had
to take 2 vacations days off I was such a wreck. Another time I
had to call her and say, "Paula, I am gonna be late because one
of my cats is in the wall!" [This was a different cat and a different
wall.] She has finally realized that she has hired a bunch of
animal lovers and never even blinks when we leave early for vet
appointments. Your boss will get used to it! You just gotta train
'em right!

| My boss is a cat hater. Whenever he complains that I'm leaving
early, again, for a vet appointment, I just threaten to pull out
my pictures of Portia, Oscar and Elmo. He'll just start screaming
"get out of here and take those awful pictures with you".
It may sound like an awful situation, but it is quite convenient.

Rosie is going to be fine. According to Dr Schaeffer, when she
got her shots last week, they lowered her resistance, and the
plaque built up on her teeth caused an infection, hence the
fever, lack of appetite, etc. Her temp was normal last night,
which it would not have been if it was felv, and she's going
in next week to have her teeth scaled (something her *former*
vet refused to do when I asked him - "she doesn't need it")
Those of you who get pissed off at idiocy (like me) may not
want to read this part, but....No more than five minutes after
I got there, these two boys and an older man walked in carrying
a black lab. They had been on their way to go hunting, with
the dog in the back of the truck (ARGH!) when she made a dive
out the back. One of her rear legs had been severely broken.
Needless to say, Sherry is on the verge of tears and can now
remember why she no longer works for a vet! I could hear the
vet quoting them a price in the exam room, waiting for the guy
to say, `forget it, put her to sleep' (she's TWO years old!).
Thank God he told the vet to do whatever it would take, or I
probably would've been all over him when he came out...I don't
know what makes some people so stupid `oh, she won't jump'....
Anyways, thank you all for your concern, Rosie is sending out
autographed pictures to all interested... :)

| You are so right Gary.!!!
I thought there was a seperate law passed stating that dogs could
not be carried in the back of pick up trucks etc, in both N.H.
and MA.?
I am so glad that Rosie is going to be all right. Those fur faces
sure can put a scare into a person. Now for lots of hugs and loves
as she gets better each day.

| I'm so glad that Rosie is doing better.
Last night I was driving home and the truck in front of me made
me think of that story you wrote about the black lab. There was
a puppy in the back of the truck that couldn't have been more than
10 months old. What made it worse was that the tailgate was OPEN!!!
The puppy kept walking toword the edge of the truck and I cringed
anytime he came close to it. How stupid can people be?
