1958.0. "GETTING REACQUAINTED?" by MEMV02::MISSELHORN () Fri Nov 11 1988 10:32

Hi everyone! I've been reading (and a little responding) to the
file in the past couple of months. My "babies" haven't been
introduced yet--one of those things I keep meaning to get to.

Anyway, we are having a problem at home and I was wondering if
anyone else has gone through this. This is the situation:

My 3 babies are Melody (1 1/2 yrs), Brittany and Melissa
(both 6 months). This week we took the 2 little kitties to
get spayed (poor Brittany even at 6 months went through a 2 day
heat and was so confused). The first night they were gone,
Melody walked around the house at night calling them and then
proceeded to spend the next 2 nights sleeping with us--something
we normally don't allow them to do at night.

So, when we picked up Brittany and Melissa yesterday, I thought
that Melody would be glad to see them. Instead, we are going
through hissing, spitting, growling, and even hitting at me with
her paw (no claws extended). The poor little kitties are really
confused since Mel adopted them as hers a few days after we got
them (we went thru the hissing, etc then too). She has been
playing "Mom" ever since, washing them, letting them try to nurse
until recently, and letting them really claw her while playing
to the point I had to take her to the vet!

So, all right, I figured out (based on info in other notes) that
maybe it's the smell of the vet's or the other animals that is
getting to Melody. Or, maybe, she is jealous since she had me
all to herself for a couple of days, just like in olden times.

What I would like to know is if anyone else's "kids" have done
something similar and HOW LONG DOES IT GO ON? I can't keep
    playing arbitrator!

Oh yeah, just went through this two weeks ago. While Niniane spent
the night at the vet's recuperating from the kitty hysterectomy,
Charm had me all to herself, all the babying, petting, cuddling
she could take (even baby food for a treat) plus she got to sleep
with me that night, which does not happen. Well, of course, after
all of that, she was hardly thrilled to see Niniane when she came
home. And poor Nin had no idea why Charm didn't recognize her.
After about three or four days, after Niniane had washed herself
several dozen times and gotten the smell of the vet off, things
were pretty much back to normal.

    Give it a little time.

When my four little girls were spayed, Sly (the male of the group)
was totally depressed. I figured that he would be jumping for joy
    when they got back.

But instead, he hissed and spit and growled and flattened his ears
at them for DAYS! After a while, though, things got back to
normal -- as they will with your kitties, too.

    Hang in there!
