little house over the top. No mess and my Chelse just loves
the privacy!

| Well, a Booda Box might work better, or a litter box with higher
sides so they can't kick the litter out. Your local pet store probably
has some examples. People who have Booda Boxes for their cat(s) seem
to swear by them. Me, I'm trying to teach them to wipe their feet
before they come back upstairs ;-) ;-)
I think my two toss it at each other when I'm not home. Fortunately,
their boxes are in the basement so I don't really have to deal with
it in the entertaining portion of my home. However, I have
occasionally had more than just litter show up outside the box after
a particularly energetic session. Seems they also enjoy chasing
each other through the litterboxes during one of their "romps."
I came home once and found the litterbox at the other end of the
basement!
I didn't even ask.........

| The covers do work pretty well. Muffin LOVES to dig..and dig..
and dig. She still manages to kick some out of the entry but not
nearly as much as before we got the cover. I usually just get the
Dust Buster ready when it's time to clean the box...

1945.4 | Giant Sized Box | FSHQA2::RWAXMAN | A Cat Makes a Purrfect Friend | Tue Nov 08 1988 16:27 | 16 |
| I also keep my litter box in the basement. I don't have a Booda
Box because my cats are two big to fit in it; however, what I use
is called a "Giant Sized Litter Box" by Van Ness. It has very high
sides so not much litter gets kicked out of the box. What solved
my problem with residue litter was a large piece of carpet remanent
saved from when we moved into our home. The litter gets trapped
in the carpet so all I do is drag the vaccuum down to the basement
once a week and vacuum the piece of carpet and the area surrounding
it. Real easy! When we rented an apartment and kept the litter
box in the bathroom, I would find litter all over the place and
ended up vacuuming at least every night. What a pain that was.
Hope you find some helpful suggestions here.

| We tried the covered litterbox, but one of kitties decided she
wouldn't use it. I guess the air was a little too pungent in
there....
Now we keep a cordless vacuum in the bathroom and give the floor
a quick clean-up whenever the box get scooped.

1945.6 | Use a scatter rug | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Tue Nov 08 1988 17:16 | 6 |
| I've put a scatter rug in front of the box, so when kitty kicks litter
or comes out of the box with litter between the toes, 95% of it
stays in the rug. Once or twice a day a day, I pick up the rug, carry
it outdoors and shake it.

1945.8 | A box within a box | BPOV02::FOLEY | Anne of DECUS | Wed Nov 09 1988 08:50 | 11 |
| Hi Lori:
I have a Booda Box for my 3 cats. I have placed the box inside
a DEC workstation box. It is long and has low sides, but it catches
some of the litter as they jump out of the box. It won't completely
cure the problem. I still find litter bits in the furtherest reaches
of the house! But it does help. Also, the charcoal filter definitely
helps. Seamus' refuse could knox a buzzard off a s___wagon!
Good luck

1945.9 | Shaggy Scatter rugs work VERY WELL. | CUPMK::TRACHMAN | ZhivagoCats, Ltd..The Inn is Full..264-8298 | Wed Nov 09 1988 08:58 | 13 |
| re: 7
Judy, I think Northeast Pet carries them. Caldor sometimes has
them.
But, as Deb mentioned, the scatter rug trick works VERY WELL,
especially a shaggy type - I used to use that, and I think I
will have to go back to doing so. The only trick is to get
them to exit the box onto the rug and not jump over the cases
of cat food that block the other side so the sand stays in the
box!!

Just thought that if you are in the Lowell Chelmsford area
that there is a Cat Show in Marlboro MA this Saturday the
12th. That's not too far away - Hadleigh House (Martha
the vendor) should be there with all that good kitty
stuff! Would make a good shopping trip!
Oh, and BTW, the Christmas show that I said was in Braintree
is now going to be located in Quincy - this is on December
17th & 18th. I'll post details when I have them.

1945.11 | Grassy door mat too! | CURIE::SADLER_TEMP | | Wed Nov 09 1988 13:27 | 12 |
| I use a booda box AND one of those plastic pseudo-grass door
mats. Before this, my two cats had litter all over the house because
they were litter scatterers, and their long hair attracted it like
magnets too. Now, since they have to climb out of the booda box,
and onto the mat to exit, the problem is much better. Plus the
door mat just needs to be shook outside to ease cleaning.
Good luck,
Cathy
BTW, I think booda now offers an oversized box too.

| I use a VT100 shell (actually it has a VT132 emblem; must have the
Advanced Video Option...) with a plastic tray. Works great.
About five years ago Persoft, Inc ran an adveritising campaign
based on what will happen to your obsolete terminal once you use
their PC based terminal emulation software. They had ads with a
VT100 made into a fishbowl, parakeet cage, etc. I sent 'em a picture
of Unit (my cat) about to enter the VT100 and got a very humorous
thank you letter and free T shirt back.

1945.17 | Thanks | BRUTUS::BARR | If you worry, your face will frown | Thu Nov 10 1988 16:23 | 17 |
| Hi,
It's me again with just a few more questions. First of all, all
this talk about booda boxes, what are they? (Forgive my ignorance
:-) ) Secondly, Snorkel's litter box is in the bathroom. It's
not a real big bathroom so I don't have the room to add another
scatter rug. There's one down on the floor already, but if I move
it closer to the litterbox, it's not centered on the bathroom floor,
and I'm very fussy about these sort of things.
Thanks so much for all the advice I've gotten so far. The thing
that's worked the best is to just vacuum the area around the litter
box every evening. It's a pain, but someone's got to do it and
Snorkel hasn't figured out how to plug the vacuum cleaner in yet.

| Lori,
If you don't have one already, get a dust buster and keep it charged
in the bathroom. That way, those nightly vacuum sessions will be
a lot quiicker and easier. No more dragging out the vacuum cleaner,
plugging it in, etc.

1945.20 | Booda-ist | BPOV06::FOLEY | Anne of DECUS | Fri Nov 11 1988 08:53 | 22 |
| HI LORI:
BOODA PRODUCTS is a company located in LA. The Booda Box is a type
of litterbox that has a deep container, covered by a plastic top
that contains a charcoal filter. The filter helps to kill the odor.
I have a order form of all their products. If you send me your
mail stop or address, I will forward it to you. It gives prices
and a description of each item.
The Booda Box is $29.95 w/$4.00 shipping if ordered directly from
the company. That total cost is comparable if you pick it up at
a pet store.
I like my Booda Box because the Charcoal filter really helps with
the odor. (The Cats' Room is off of the kitchen!) The idea of
the grass mat outside of the box and/or putting the litter box within
another box really helps cut down on litter-carrying throughout
the house.
