1878.0. "Airlines raise Cat prices to $50 each way" by JULIET::CORDESBRO_JO () Fri Oct 14 1988 20:30

I just got a call from my travel agent saying that United has raised
its price for transporting cats from $30.00 each way to $50.00 each
way!!! I am still in shock.

A year or so ago, somebody started a letter writing campaign to
all the airlines in an attempt to remedy this type of situation.
I remember that the article was printed in Cat World Magazine
(an insert in the Exhibitors Edition of Cats Magazine). That letter
writing campaign was started as a result of several airlines raising
their cat rates from $25.00 to $30.00. Does anyone remember who
wrote the article, or which issue it was published in?

Is anyone else shocked and outraged by this drastic increase in
price for baggage that is not handled by anyone else but the
owner of the cat? (In the case of carry on, under the seat cats)

I also find it interesting that this increase comes just a month
before the Purina/CFA National Invitational Show in St. Louis, MO.
Did the airlines know that hundreds of cats would be making the
trek to St. Louis from all corners of the country?

This almost makes me glad that only one of my cats will be invited
to the show in St. Louis (well, I did say "almost" 8^}) If not,
my cat tickets would cost me as much as *my* airline tickets. The
next step might just be to book the cat as a passenger with it's
own seat and most definitely a special meal (Seafood of course).

Does anyone know how one goes about starting a petition? I would
like to get something in the works to take to the Invitational show
    on the 19th of November.

What do the rest of you think?

    Jo
