1863.0. "JUST CATS, no kill shelter" by DRFIX::IVES () Wed Oct 12 1988 17:07

    If this should be under the header of NO KILL SHELTERS/ or
    entered by someone before do with it what you will.

    When we were at the cat show in Boston I came across this
    shelter.  It's called:

    JUST CATS ADOPTION SHELTER, INC.
    BOX 531 MANSFIELD, MASS 02048
    508-285-3404

          a non profit organization and absolutely does not euthenize.

    It was next to the MSPCA display and MSPCA wanted these people to
    take down their very large sign which said they do not euthenize.
    Of course they would not.

    As I talked to the woman there she said that they were having a
    hard time keeping their heads above water, they even buy medicine
    and food out of their own pay checks when things get very lean.
    I asked what they needed most and she said, ANYTHING. Cat food,
    litter, blankets, toys, money, or anything you know a cat would
    need.

    They have yard sales from things people have given them. This is
    done every month.

    Their shelter is cageless, except for newcomers, sick or pregnant
    and post surgeries.

    I was very impressed with this womans sincerity, and she was very
    enthuastic about their shelter.

    If anyone would like to donate something for the shelter in the way
    of supplies or something they can sell at their yard sale you
    can call and leave a message, or money can be sent to the above
    address. For $15.00 or more you can become a member of JUST CATS
    and receive their bimonthly newsletter which features a guest vet
    column and calendar of events.

    Thanks for taking the time to read this long message.
    (Hope I haven't broken any corp rules)

    Barbara, anything that saves animals lives is not taking up time
    or breaking any rules in my books. I dream of hitting megabucks
    just so I can open up something like this for all animals.

    P.S.
    actually my husband thinks I already started.

1863.2So much to be done.....BRUTWO::SOBEKThu Oct 13 1988 10:5525
    Barbara,

    I was also impressed with the "Just Cats" display at the show.
    ...though I ended up leaving the area in a hurry. It's one thing
    to care about homeless cats in general ...something else to see one
    particular homeless cat looking at you. Something about the contrast
    of the homeless ones caged near all the "pampered darlings" was
    especially poignant. It doesn't seem like too much for a kitty to
    ask for ...a meal, a warm place to sleep and a person who belongs
    to them. It made the small donation seem very inadequate.

    My hat is off to the people (including many of our Feline Noters)
    who give so much of themselves in a real effort to reduce the numbers
    of cats in trouble and helping them to find loving homes. Caring
    comes natural to "cat lovers", but doing something about it, one
    cat at a time, is the tough part.

    My thoughts are drifting to E.T. and all the work she does to show
    how much fun can be had with her "rescued" family ...to Roberta
    and her work with the ferals, ..to the breeders who give so much
    advice to help us give our cats the best of care ...to you, Barbara
    for caring enough to enter this base note, and to so many others
    who have done what they could ..and then some. It's an encouraging
    thought to know that so much love has GOT to make a difference.

1863.3I'm going to helpVIDEO::TAYLORMe and my lil' pots o' purrs.Fri Oct 14 1988 10:5410
    Barbara,

    Thank you for putting in that note. My cat club is sponsoring a
    cat show in about 3 weeks and we were looking for just this kind
    of shelter to put up a display out front. I am going to give them
    a call today and have them send some info to the show manager.

1863.5answering machine doesn't work!VIDEO::TAYLORMe and my lil' pots o' purrs.Thu Oct 20 1988 10:017
    I have been trying to get in touch with these people, but every
    time I call I get the answering machine. I wait to leave a message
    "after the beep" but I think that the machine is malfunctioning.
    The beep just keeps beeping.:-)

1863.6Knock, knock, who's there? NO ONEDRFIX::IVESThu Oct 20 1988 13:4815
    Hi Holly

    I'm sorry their answering machine doesn't work. (Darn these gadgets!!)

    I was wondering if you called the operator, (maybe she is a cat
    lover?) and told her the story, also the post office might know
    who picks up the mail from the box and you could tell them.

    Any of you noters out there live in Mansfield?????? Could you help
    Holly out? Maybe go find the place and knock on the door etc.

    Holly let me know if any of the above work or don't work. We could
    always call the cops!!!!!!!

    Well, I finally got in touch with them. I told them about their
    answering macine problem, and told them to contact the show manager
    for this weekend's show. Hopefully, they'll be there Saturday.
