1830.0. "Need help with "I love you" gift." by SALEM::NOYCE (Yellowstone-Yea! Park Service-Nay!) Wed Oct 05 1988 14:00

My wife has been asking me to get her a kitten. I have
resisted because Lucky absolutely does not want other Felines
in his yard let alone the house!! She went into the hospital
Sunday and I want to get her a present. I thought about flowers
but she isn't allowed any right now. Then I hit upon the idea
of giving her a kitten to show her my love and it will go on
giving her laughs and happiness for years. (we will have to
work thru Luckies problem as we go). It would be very hard to
buy one with only half our income now but I could work something
out if it's not too much. I am looking for any color but black!!
I would like it to be 4-6 months old so that it's not too much
trouble for her to care for when she gets home and probably a
female so Lucky won't feel the new cat is a threat to him. If
my thinking is faulty anywhere along here let me know because
my world's upside down right now and it's hard to think this thru
logically. It will not be an indoor only cat but will have it's
freedom to tell us it's desires. Litter box trained a must and
not wild. I don't know if I've left anything out or not-2 ears,
2 eyes-same color or different no matter, and a tail(how else
you going to tell if it's mad before it bites you??) Oh yes,
it will have a good loving home whether my wife comes home again
or not and that's a promise. I live in Methuen and could travel
15-20 miles but relunctant to go much farther. Thanks in advance
    for your help.

Try CSS::SAMPSON, I know he has three more lovely kittens to give away,
all of which are litter trained. I believe today is the dead line
before they go to the shelter. Hope you find one.

By the way - you are such a sweetie! I'm sure you're wife will
appreciate it greatly! I wish her a speedy recovery.

Take a deep breath and think of Lucky. Please don't do anything
on the spur of the moment....

Hope you wife is feeling better soon!

Hope your wife is feeling better soon.

I'm SURE Lucky will have no problem with a small kitten. It may
not be instant love, but within a very short time they will be
buddies - he will like being boss over a baby, teaching him the
ropes of the outside world. I'm sure your wife will be thrilled.

Enjoy & let us know how things go.

Yes, please keep us informed both as to how your wife is doing and
what you eventually decide as to a kitten.

I agree about Lucky adapting eventually. Martini was an only boy
for 4 years and accepted Star. In fact he fell in love with Star.
    She now bullies him.

There are SO MANY kittens that need homes that I am SURE that you
will find one to show your wife how much you love her.

1830.6A happy ending!!SALEM::NOYCEYellowstone-Yea! Park Service-Nay!Tue Nov 08 1988 09:0620
I thought I would update this and close it so you wouldn't
    be left hanging.
My wife has returned home from the hospital after only 16 days
and contrary to what the doctor first said will make a full recovery.
Thank you all for your many good wishes and thoughts. I found a
kitten in Lawrence, Mass. and had it home when she came home. She
loves it and has had a lot of enjoyment watching it play around
the house. My 15 yr old had also wanted a kitten of his own because
some of his school pals had their own so she gave it to him to care
for, feed, change the box, etc. He has turned into a regular mother
to the 10 wk old kitten. It sleeps with him at night(if it comes
down to our bed Lucky has a fit and no one sleeps!!), plays all
over the house during the day, and when Andy is home from school
gets up on his shoulders and rides around the house. It's really
funny to see a little gray tiger kitten follow around and treat
as her mother a 6' 220lb teenage boy(giant boy!!) My wife still
gets all the fun of having a kitten without the work and she made
Andy very happy. Enough of that. Thanks again for all your help
    and good wishes.

My son named her Princess. I won't tell you what Lucky Calls
her!! He hasn't let up on the hissing and growling since the day
    she arrived.
