1766.0. "LOVELY CAT PORTRAITS" by VLS5::ALEXANDER () Wed Sep 14 1988 12:53

     I am an artist and I specialize in Animal and People Portraiture.
    Now I know how much all of you out there LOVE your kitty cats! Soon
    The holidays will be upon us so let me make my sales pitch!

         Give a Kitty Portrait! to someone you love, or yourself!

    I have done many Cat and Dog portraits and some have been known
    to bring tears to the eyes of the owner! I truly have a special
    talent for capturing that special expression in a loved pet's
    face. My medium is pastel. Maximum life of a pastel portrait
    is estimated to ten years but I can tell you, as I sit here and
    Type I can look up at the face of my childhood pet Chippy who's
    portrait was done in my junior year of high school 11 years ago.
    Fixed, framed and sealed propperly, the portrait is flawless.
    ( And won me the "Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards Blue ribbon
    and Gold Key", not to mention! ) I have many references who can
    verify that my work is excellant. I work from photograph, small
    or large, black & white or color. I price my pieces competitively
    but I have been told I should be asking more -:) It's a labor of
    love as well, but everybody needs to earn an extra buck around
    Christmas!

       What more can I say about such a personal gift from the
    heart and hands! If anyone is interested mail me at :

                 MSBVLS::ALEXANDER The number of pieces I can
    Handle before Christmas is limited by my time of course....
    But this applies to any time of the year!

    I live in Southern N.H. but I'm willing to discuss business from
    out of state as shipping and handling can usually be worked out.
    It introduces a time constraint however.

    Thank you for your consideration
    Nancy Alexander

    Say, an 8 1/2 X 11.

    Ditto! I have cat paraphenalia all over the house including a mom
    cat and her kitten I made in a ceramics class, numerous pillows,
    figurines, pictures, etc.

    I would love a portrait of my 2 (soon to be 3) babies.

      What a response! I only entered my ad at noon...there are obviously
    some questions about cost. As some of you may already know, I really
    need to see the reference material. There are many price-determining
    factors to be considered here. to name a few:

    * Full size Cat body or just head
    * How many Cats in the picture?
    * Full color or half-tones
    * Mat provided?

    All my mat-cutting and framing is done professionally. I am a client
    of "THE CASUAL CAT" Picture Framing and Art Gallery in Amherst NH.

    So if you are interested, I will need some of this info for a ballpark
    quote, and ultimately to see the reference photo. I take full
    responsibility for any precious phots given to me. I always return
    them intact.

    in response to the "Quantity in numbers" --- 15? Wow! thats alot
    of purring! what an enormous effort that would be, quite a
    challenge to say the least. But Art doesn't work quite that way..
    I'm afraid!

    Drop me a line....

    This response is wonderful, now I really feel guilty!
    ! I still haven't done portraits of my own precious Long-haired
    Yaddie, and the new, ever-so-wild, Pippontat-kitten!!)

    I hate to put a damper on this, but I believe the base note and
    note .6 violate Digital's policy on not using computers for other
    businesses you or your relatives may have.

    Here is the relevant section of policy 6.06 which I found in VTX.
    Section B is the relevant section. I know other conferences have
    found it necessary to ban all mention of other businesses people
    are involved in.

Employee Doing outside Consulting...

 II. EMPLOYEE DOING OUTSIDE CONSULTING OR ENGAGING IN OUTSIDE
      BUSINESS ACTIVITIES

      An employee is allowed to do outside consulting or to engage
      in outside business activities provided the employee meets
      all the following criteria:

      A. The consulting or outside business activity, including
          preparation, is not on Company time nor does the consult-
          ing or outside business activity in any way impact the
          employee's job performance at Digital.

      B. The consulting or outside business activity does not in
          any way utilize any Digital resources; e.g., facilities,
          materials, equipment, telephones, trade secrets, Company
          proprietary or confidential information, etc.

      C. The consulting or outside business activity is not for,
          with, or at any competitor, supplier or customer.

      D. The consulting or outside business activity does not
          compete with any business activities of, or services
          currently offered by, Digital.

      E. The consulting or outside business activity does not
          result in significant enhancements of competitors'
          products, involve decision-making which could result in
          recommending competitor's products, or result in a
          significant business advantage for a competitor.

      F. Consulting or outside business activity in the field of
          computers or related activities is reviewed by the
          employee's manager. In situations requiring interpre-
          tation of this policy, the case will be referred to the
          Business Conduct Committee for final decision.

1766.8Moderator responseVAXWRK::LEVINEThu Sep 15 1988 12:036
Our personnel rep should be in this afternoon and I'll ask him for
an interpretation of this. If he takes a narrow view, then we'll
have to delete notes about employees offering pet sitting services,
etc.

1766.9I thought this might occurVLS5::ALEXANDERThu Sep 15 1988 12:457

    Well, yes this did occur to me and I even attempted to delete the
    note. Then when I got replies I could not delete the note. It was
    protected. So. I'm sorry if I was wrong. I will wait for further
    response from our moderator. Thank you for making me aware of the
    facts.

    Let's not go overboard here. I vote for keeping this note in.

1766.11Official responseVAXWRK::LEVINEThu Sep 15 1988 16:1514
This seems to be a situation with alot of grey areas. My personnel rep
didn't really see anything wrong with allowing this to stand, or this
practice to continue. He feels that if you take a very narrow inter-
pretation of the policy, then one would have to believe that this sort
of thing should not be allowed. However, his feeling was that employee
interest notesfiles should serve the interests of employees and that
employees who provide services of interest to employees should be allowed
to make that known. He said that solicitation is clearly not allowed,
however.

So, it is the opinion of the moderators that there is nothing wrong here.
