| I've never tried the light trick with a cat, but my airedale goes
out of her mind!!! She will chase a light for hours, leaping at
the ceiling, or trying to chase it up the wall. When she was a
puppy, and extremely wild, I used to stand on the deck at night
and run her around the fenced in back yard about a hundred times
chasing the light just so she could run off some of the EXCESS energy.

| My 18 year old used to chase lights too (she's gotten
too old now - but still watches as if she wants too!). I found
that the best thing to use was light pointer designed for
pointing at the screen with slides or movies. It gave a good
sharp image for her to chase. I think she thought is was bug!

| Aja chases the flashlight beam also. I think it's great; it's like
having a 'wireless remote control' for the cat. More fun than those
battery powered cars my nephews have...
There's a white door at the end of a hallway in my house. I'll make
aja chase the light down the hall. When she gets a couple feet from
the door I'll drop the light down real low so her shadow is cast
on the door. She 'sees' another cat, so she gets mad and arches
her back up. Of course the other cat does also, so pretty soon aja
gets locked in a hissing-loop.

Edd your'e terrible....
Actually I'm going to try this `game' out tonight. Deja loves to
play with her golden string but Thunder keeps butting in. Maybe
I can use the light trick on Thunder and keep her away from Deja's
toy.

1754.6 | True story, I swear... | JAWS::COTE | Hey! Edd got a job! | Wed Sep 14 1988 09:36 | 31 |
| ...so there's Edd, plopped down in his favorite recliner watching
"150 Years Of American Photography" on the tube, quaffing a mug
of his favorite green-bottled passion, while the fierce aja practices
her wind sprints through the living room....
...soon aja realizes Senor Mouse (her catnip toy) has been lurking
beside the speaker all night. She pounces, intent on giving him
the thrashing he so richly deserves.
She bashes him from one side to the other with the skill of a hockey
player; she renders him helpless with her patented version of the
"Vulcan Tuckus Clamp".
Senor Mouse *apparently* learns his lesson, for he is soon released
from her incapacitating grip. Then, just when aja is ready to wander
off in search of new societies to decimate, Senor Mouse inperceptably
moves a muscle that only aja can see.
With lightening speed she is on him, siezing the rotund rodent in
her powerful jaws. Realizing that Senor Mouse has powers far beyond
those of mere mortal mice, she flicks her head and launches him
into a gracefull orbit across the living room where, upon completion
of his mission, Senor Mouse executes a perfect "splash-down"....
RIGHT IN MY BEER!!!!
I all but wet my pants laughing!!

| Hannah recently was playing with her teddy bear, tossing him up and then
attempting to catch him, when she tossed him with a hook shot and he landed
in the toilet.....I heard the splash and came running - only to find my
little elf looking up all around as if to locate exactly where that bear was
clinging to the ceiling or wall, refusing to come down and play, while the
hapless bear floated, somewhat sodden, in the bowl. I don't think he
will ever be the same...We sympathize with Senor Mouse, life with a cat
can be difficult.

1754.14 | Swimming Sam! | SALEM::DEFRANCO | | Wed Sep 14 1988 16:17 | 16 |
| Speaking of things landing in the toilet!! We had only had Sam
about two days and he was busy exploring his new home. He had the
habit of jumping around instead of curiously investigating things.
well, one evening when I was brushing my teeth, Sam came around
the corner into the bathroom. I guess the noise of the running
water and brushing got him excited because he started his usual
jumping. With the first jump he landed behind me, the second jump,
he landed to the right, with the third jump he landed right in the
open toilet bowl! I'll tell you, he came out of that bowl as fast
as he got into it! Poor little Sam, he just couldn't understand
why mom was laughing so hard at his unfortunate accident. To this
day, he checks out the toilet seat to be sure its down before he
jumps around in the bathroom!

| Re: .14
Our ever-so-dainty Pipsqueak landed in the toilet one day, boy did
that take some explaining to the vet since we were on the way to his office
for her checkup! In my household the toilet seat lid is always down
(unless it is in use 8^) ) so the cats are accustomed to racing in and
jumping up to watch whatever their people are doing; since it was *about*
to be in use, the lid was up and I had one soggy kitten. She was still
too little to climb out and I was laughing so hard that it took a minute
before I could grab her and reach for a towel. You've heard the old
saying, if looks could kill -- her facial expression was priceless!

but they both have ended up slipping into it somehow. I think I have
2 clumsy kitties.
Now they don't jump up unless the lid is down.

| Boy does this one bring back memories...
My mother-in-law has this siamese cat that has had this thing about
water since she was a very little kitten.
The first time she had a close encounter of the wet kind she could
fit almost in the palm of your hand, my mother-in-law had been washing
dishes when the phone rang, so she went into the other room and
was chatting away when out came this little suds covered kitten,
you all know what cats look like when wet! You should have seen
her with the legs shaking and the crying... she was quickly dried
off and her feelings mended alittle. However, all the while we were
laughing so hard it hurt.
Then a few months latter she had been sitting on the sink while
my husband was taking a shower and she had this habit of sticking
her nose against the shower curtain. Well, my husband is a bit
mischievous, and noticed the cat on the other side of the curtain
and promptly snapped the curtain which scared poor Buffy and she
flew off the sink, and you guessed it straight into the toilet!
She wasn't a happy kitty to say the least and she also didn't talk
to her brother (my husband) for a week after that!
Should we say to the kids "Look before you leap"?

1754.19 | Bubble bath? | SAGE::PRIESTLEY | Maximizing the Corporate Resource | Tue Oct 04 1988 14:19 | 16 |
| My baby, Norman (as in Bates) hasn't hit the toilet yet, but....
Every time I take a bubble bath, Norman will come and sit on the
edge of the tub and play with the bubbles. His paws start to get
wet, and his splashing makes the tub a bit slippery.
All it takes is one sudden move, and in he slides--and out he streaks.
The sounds that come out of that creatures mouth are enough to really
make your skin crawl. My neighbors came over once to see what the
racket was, and there was poor Norman, mad as can be, looking like
a little rat and refusing to talk to me. You'd think he would learn!
(He does the same thing with suds and dishes in the sink)
