1741.0. "How do you choose another??" by AIMHI::LLEBLANC () Tue Sep 06 1988 16:02

I have a couple of friends who have indoor male cats. Both have
expressed a desire to adopt another to keep them company during
    the day since both work.

Can anyone tell me what would be best, a female or male...Any help
would be appreciated since I'm the one who is responsible for both
of these kitties having homes in the first place, I would love to
give two more furfaces loving homes....

    Thanks in advance...

I have had many cats in different combinations. It has been my
experience that a male female mix works very well. Of course
boys can get along with boys and visa versa. However I have
found that cats of the same sex seem to loose patience with
    each other more easily.

I am going through the same thing myself (adding a new cat to the
    household around November).

Both my cats are males. Since they love to pal around with the
neighbors two cats, also males (all are neutered), I decided on
another male. My decision was based on the fact that I adore male
cats (they are bigger, fluffier, and overall, there is more to love)
as well as the fact that when my boys see a female, they high-tail
    it in the opposite direction!

Also, of my mom's 4, the two females stick together and the two
males stick together. It has been my experience that a male and
a female work well only when brought up together or if both have
    all their working parts intact.

Enough said! All in all, it depends on the cats and their overall
    disposition.

    Good luck!

I have 8 boys and 7 girls - it all works - either/or they all
have a good time with the one that suits them (different pairs
depending on their moods). I find that similar personalities
will pair up rather than the same or different sex.

Roberta, cats with all their parts don't always get along. Only
about once every couple of weeks.

    Roberta,

Does this mean you've decided to keep one of Karissa's babies?
    That's wonderful.
