1715.0. "info needed" by ALIEN::GEOFFROY () Tue Aug 30 1988 13:56

    Info needed

I have a female cat age 5 months. I am getting a male Persian on
Fri. He is 10 months old. What I want to know is, will they eventually
get along together? I understand that it will be rough in the beginning
but I'm worried about the months ahead. I plan on having them both
fixed when they are old enough. Can anyone give me advise on this??

    Thanks
    Sue

The male is eligible for a "fixing" now. I beleive 9 months is
standard. Things will probably go smoother if he is neutered.
It tends to calm them a bit. They are both young and probably not
very set in their ways. I think the first 3 weeks will be the
    worst of it.
    				Good Luck!

I agree. Have the male neutered now-its time. I have two
cats and introduced a third. It took only a few days of
hissing, squabbling, moaning, and then they were all sleeping
together staring at each other. They finally accepted the
    third cat with no problems.

    Just a matter of time!

Sue, with both of them being so young, they should play A LOT!
If you have your little boy neutered before you bring him to
your house that would be good - youngsters that young generally
do very well - they will tumble and rough house and chew on each
other quite a bit - all to be expected! Enjoy and try not to
    worry - kittens are FUN!!!!

We got Bandit from a shelter and when she was 2 we rescued a tinu
kitten. Well, Bandit hissed and spat and hid for almost a week.
When we would carry her out to eat or to use the box she would
hiss. She was terrified of the kitten (guess she thought that she
was due to be tossed out again) .... well, two weeks later and they
were playfully chasing one another around and wrestling all over
the place. Now they are inperarable. Noses will be out of joint
but if the cat is basically calm and loving they will adjust in
time. Bandit really needed the company. She has regressed to being
a kitten. We had a short re-occurance of the problem when we
transferred to Maine, but things are settled once more. I think
that Bandit blamed the change on Smokey!

Sue, I just thought of something else I do when I bring in a new
kid. If one of the older kids is making a little noise about the
new baby, I pick the new baby up, bring it right over to the kid
that is hissing, and put the new baby's back end right up to
the older kid's nose and let them have a good sniff - the new
baby can't see what is going on and it gives the older kid a
chance to check things out and for him to be in control with
me right there- it seems to work - I keep repeating it every
so often if the older kid keeps hissing.
