1540.0. "Scaredy Cat..." by JAWS::COTE (yawn...) Tue Jul 12 1988 09:46

We've been having some higher than normal thunderboomer activity
in my area and AJA DOESN'T LIKE IT!!!

As soon as she hears the first rumble off in the distance, she
jumps down from whatever she was on and goes running into the
bedroom (growling all the way) to hide behind my bed. She's
literally spent almost *all* her time there recently, only coming
    out when desperately hungry.

Since the bed weighs over a ton and a half I can't move it to get
her out and the space she goes into is far to small for me to reach
in, I just end up talking to her through the small (2" or so) space
between the headboard and the wall. She purrs away and apparently
has no trouble getting out so I'm not concerned...

I thought that with all the thunderstorm activity my 2 Siamese
would have a problem. However, they have surprised me!!! They
actually like it. They sit in the window watching the lightning
    light up the sky.

They amaze me each and every day.

    Edd,

I've got the same thing here. Now that the waterbed is gone, they've
got more room, but they're still scared. Last night, at the first
rumble, Honey (who was trying to be brave), sat on the bed with
his ears pinned back and his eyes wide open. As the storm drew
closer, he finally gave in to fear and flew under the bed and curled
up around Chauncey, who had already taken refuge. Poor things...

You wanna talk about scardy cats? My four top them all! Last night
we had a big thunderstorm. There was one MAJOR thunder clap that
shook the whole house. All of the sudden, I had four cats in bed
with me under the covers! They stayed with me for at least an hour
after the thunder storm was over. And all of them HAD to be touching
me in some way. I had four SCARED cats with me. I'm surprized
that I don't have any claw marks on me this morning.

Oh... Pookie is just petrified.. one sound and she is under the
waterbed.. Happy on the other is very unaffected by it all....
she just sleeps her way thru the storm. It is funny, moi is
not all that brave herself, and Pookie was watching me bless
the house with holy water, and I know she was thinking, how about
a little over this way mummy, and don't forget to do MR MOUSEY,
and the the rest of my toys..
    regards

When the storm started last night, I gathered my gang up and we
all cozied up in the bedroom. I tried to tell myself that it would
be better if we were all in there just in case the house was hit
by lightning, and I had to get all of us out at once. After a while,
though, I had to admit to myself that I just needed a little company
during the big thunder-boomers! I'm such a chicken!

Last night, we had the closest-sounding thunder and fast-paced
lightning I've heard or seen in years. One sonic boom sounded
like it emanated from our garage...Touey ran in my room first and
hopped up to be comforted...Guntie (my huge dog) heard me soothing
Touey and tried to join us but couldn't get his big hind on my bed,
kicking out the bottom shelf of my typewriter cart, scattering tapes
and records everywhere. Then Dopples, our lop-eared rabbit, began
making a racket in his cage out in the air-conditioned living room.
Touey, Guntie and I went to join Dops to keep his company. I lifted
the top of the cage to pat his head and he jumped out and went
FLYING down the hall to my mothers bed. Boy, did he want his mommy!
I retrieved him and put him back in the cage since he was too nervous
to be held, but we stayed out with him until the worst of it passed.
Just another night in the Roy household...

Well, I now know who are the scaredie-cats in my house - Katenka
and Yurii (the mousie and the elephant) were hiding in the back
of one of the closets in my bedroom. Yurii also dives under
the covers on my bed - all you can see is the huge lump in
the middle of the bed! He thinks that if he is under the
covers nothing can touch him and no one can see him! I
haven't he heart to tell him differently!

With last nights storm , both Portia and Oscar were outside when
the thunder started. Since on various instances they bothe learned
the hard way that it's better to be indoors during a storm, they
both headed towards the door at the first thunder clap.

Meanwhile, my boyfriend and I decided to sit out on the back porch
and watch the storm. We had the back door wide open and eventually
Oscar and Portia both decided that it was time to be brave. After
all, if mommy and daddy are brave enough to watch the storm, so
are Osco and Porty. At this point the thunder and lighting had
stopped for a while, and the cats were wandering around the porch
a bit more, investigating the rain drops. All of a sudden we got
a huge thunder boom. 2 cats flew across the porch and dove into
    their mommy and daddy's laps.

    So much for being brave!

During last night's storms, I learned a valuable lesson. Never
console a frightened kitty during a thunder storm by holding her
in your lap. This is even more true when you are wearing shorts.
Oh well, what's a little blood letting!

I opened up the windows in my studio last night and poked a couple
microphones out. Now I have a 45 minute full stereo recording of
    a thunderstorm.

Go ahead, Aja, claw the furniture. I'll play *the tape*....

Rep.-1 Hey Edd now all you need to do is hack a device together
with a few sensors on your furniture and wire that to your tapedeck..
