1535.0. "FATHER'S DAY STORY" by USFSHQ::LDIPROFIO () Fri Jul 08 1988 13:41
Well, I started this note several times re our new addition to our
household. We had had our dog, Becky, put down after 10 years,
and my husband said "NO MORE DOGS!!!!" Well, as you know, this
situation of coming home and no friendly greetings was getting to
me as well as Jim, but still, "NO MORE DOGS!!!!". I could see a
definite problem here. So, I decided he didn't say "NO MORE CATS!!!!"
So, for Father's Day, I got him a beautiful blue cream Persian cat.
He was less than enthused to put it mildly. Well, kitty walked
around being ignored by her new owner, but not me. I did have an
out, as my boss offered to buy her if it didn't turn out well. Well,
by Sunday, there was NO way I would part with her (maybe, him at
that point). When I wasn't looking, I saw him play with her a little.
He just didn't want to get "attached" to another animal plus he
had just suffered the loss of a brother not too long ago.
Well, after living on pins and needles, Saturday and Sunday, he
started coming around. I was trying to think of some name to go
with a beautiful Persian kitten. However, Monday at noontime when
I went home for lunch, there was a reference to the fact that "E.T."
had scratched the furniture. I'm going "E.T.?" for a Persian female
kitten? Thought it over, and figured, what the heck, it's his Father's
Day present.
It was a little amusing bringing her to the Vet and getting strange
reaction to the name, but Jim, who hasn't ever seen a Persian Kitten
that close, decided that with that face, she looked like E.T. to
him so it was to be call E.T.
The ironic thing about this whole episode is that this cute little
kitten is just great and is now helping him (us) through another
difficult time over which we have no control. I've read cats (kittens)
lower blood pressure and help stress and now I am a true believer!!!
You will be hearing more from me regarding and asking questions
about E.T., but just wanted to share with you what a delight it
has been both from Jim and myself to have this little "HAIRY" critter
walking around purring away, playing with whatever, and just being
a joy.

| Nice kitty story! Soon the two will never be parted. It's so neat
how these furry little lovers can take over your life and your love.
There is also no question that E.T. will help your hubby get over
his past losses and be in love with another pet. They are so helpful
with just plain making you feel better.
Good luck! Keep us tuned!

| E.T.??? Elaine, you should feel honored..You have a kitten named
after you.
Actually I am very glad that little E.T. is fitting right in. Kittens
bring us such joy and Elaine with 16 does know that.

1535.3 | Takes them awhile... | FSHQOA::RWAXMAN | A Cat Makes a Purrfect Friend | Fri Jul 08 1988 17:09 | 11 |
| When I first got Chauncey and Nikki, my fiance was far from thrilled,
but now, he won't go to bed at night without asking "where are the
kitties?" It took him awhile, but he has done a complete 360 turn.
When I was in Virginia for a week visiting my sister, I left him
20 cans of cat food - a two week supply. Well, all but three cans
were gone when I returned and Nikki looked a little rounder :-).
Bet your husband will start treating E.T. better than he does you
real soon!!

| Re: .3
This reminds me of an unrelated story, about when a friend got married.
Kate had always fed Casey Cat after she (Kate) took her morning
shower. After two weeks of married life, Kate and John discovered
that this had been going on in the morning:
John gets up and feeds Casey.
Kate gets up and starts to take shower.
Casey eats all his breakfast.
Kate comes into kitchen, see empty bowl, and Casey 'waiting'.
Kate feeds Casey.
