1531.0. "Birman Info" by BRUTUS::SOBEK () Thu Jul 07 1988 14:17

    Thanks for the prompt reply! I'm in Westford, Ma. though, ..seems
    like the other end of the world. My husband bought an excellent
    book on cats a few years ago and I was greatly impressed with the
    brief info and picture of the Birman. I lost my beloved old type
    20 year old male Siamese a while back (seems like yesterday) and
    though I still have his geriatric half-sister and her almost-as-old
    daughter, I thought this might be the time to start looking into
    the possibility of having (and maybe raising) Birmans. My search
    for breeders in this area has been fruitless thus far. I did finally
    get to see a couple of Birmans at a cat show in N.H. year before
    last, there were none at the local shows this year. They were lovely.

    I would like to know more about there temperament. Are they difficult
    to raise ....anything at all that is peculiar to the breed....
    I have never shown my cats, ....just hug them alot... but am
    considering this as a possibilty... or I may just decide on a pet..
    I just don't know enough about them yet. Any advice or info would
    be appreciated.......

    Hi Linda,

    I'm not sure, but I think there were some Birman breeders at the
    International Show last weekend. I unfortunately don't have my
    book with me at work. I will try and remember to bring it to work
    tomorrow.

1531.2Registries/ShowsBRUTUS::SOBEKThu Jul 07 1988 14:564
    I'm not very will informed about the different registries. Are
    there only certain ones that recognize Birmans, and only shows
    affiliated with these particular registies would be likely to have
    Birmans entered??
1531.3I show mostly CFA but some TICAJULIET::CORDESBRO_JOThu Jul 07 1988 20:4314
    Birmans are accepted in all registering associations. They are
    very social cats, very people oriented. The reason that you are
    having trouble finding them at shows is because they are still a
    slightly rare breed. You will usually find more at a CFA show than
    other shows since both of the breed clubs are CFA affiliated and
    most breeders put their emphasis on CFA. It is the largest registering
    body in the US and so wins in that association hold a little more
    prestige. I have several friends living in Virginia who also breed
    Birmans. Let me know if you want addresses or phone numbers.
    You can also send me mail if you have questions (juliet::cordesbro_jo)

    Linda,

    There are several top Birman breeders in the New Jersey area. They
    show in CFA and we don't have many CFA shows in New England. There
    is one coming up August 20 and 21 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Look
    in then.
