    Hello,
    
    Has anyone got any advice on how to ascertain the parentage of my
    cat?!
    
    She is undoubtedly a "moggie" of sorts but she has several
    characteristics which point to a decidedly oriental ancestry.
    
    She will sit, stand up and wait on command and picks up any additional
    commands very easily (I speak them quietly but firmly and have never
    shouted or bribed her with treats - she just seems naturally to
    take to carrying things out if you ask her!)
    
    She knows what "Do you want to come with us?" means and will sit
    by the door and wait until we are outside.  She then sets off a
    few paces in front, skipping along with her tail high as if she
    really enjoys it.  She will "wait" when asked to by the curb before
    crossing the road and will hide in the bushes until we re-emerge
    from the shops and then follow us home again.
    
    She also talks - the most noticeable when its raining outside and
    she is bored.  She will sit on the windowsill and sigh, occasionally
    adding a small whine now and again of dismay if it continues for
    a long time!
    
    Lastly her appearance - she is pure white with an unusually long
    'ropey' tail, very pointed face and large ears!
    
    Someone who saw her recently remarked that she may have Abssynian
    blood in her but I don't think I would know an Abssynian cat if
    I swa one. (She was two years old when I got her, unwanted, bald and
    extremely run down - she's beautiful now but I would love to know
    what type of puss she might be?)

    Welcome to Feline notes.  I must admit I always thought Dinky looked 
    slightly Siamese but don't quote me on that!!!

    Aby's are short haired cats that look like little cougars.  They
    have tabby markings on there faces, but not on their bodies.  They
    have what is called a ticked tabby marking on their bodies.  Each
    hair has three bands of color on it.  They are very active cats
    (sometimes bouncing off the walls) and very beautiful.  They come
    in four colors Red, Ruddy, Blue and Fawn (which isn't a recognized
    color in many of the cat associations yet).
    
    Did you say that your cat is white and longhaired?  Maybe she resembles
    a Turkish Angora.  There really is no way to find out what she has
    in her background but it is fun to look through cat books and find
    pictures that look like your cat.  Or go to a cat show.  That way
    you could see the different breeds up close and personal.

    Thanks very much for the reply. Abys sound abosolutely lovely and
    I think you're right - Dinky definitely isn't one!!
    
    Never mind, I will do as you suggest - I've never been to a cat
    show so it would be nice to go and have a look round.

    I was looking in my cat book last night and I found one that really
    looks like Dinky...it's a British White Shorthair.
