You can see it in the eyes too. If looks could kill, Dazdee
would have cleaned me out long ago! He is great at dirty
looks and I know by that when he is upset with me! When he's
scared, his eye get real big - round as saucers! (which isn't
often, Dazdee is a tough little kittie!)

both answers are right. Sammie is always going out and annoying
other cat's and also teasing dog's and they he will come tearing
through the cat flap at about 60mph with eyes like saucers and a
tail like Basil Brush (the fox). He gets no sympathy now as I've
seen him teasing "come on you coward, chase ME!!!"

Hi,
I was very interested to read your "How to Read a Cat" reference
a bushy tail, as my cat (a wierd little White half-oriental puss!)
"Dinky" arches her back and spits at Dogs but only bushes her tail
if the DOG is afraid and runs away from HER!! We have always
interpreted this bushing as a "Arn't I brave!" statement for our
benefit when she comes back to the house - maybe it's just false
bravado afterall!

| ok that answers bushy tails, now about ears ! Without bushy tail
what does it mean when ears are flat on the back of the head, and
when they are forward (flat) ?

| When Alexander-the-Great's ears are flat back, he is VERY unhappy.
I've never seen a cats ears flat forward. When Alex wants to be
told how beautiful he is, he sticks his ears straight up and looks
at you with his big golden eyes wide open. Alex is a large (14
lb) all black Maine Coon, and he is beautiful. His expressions
tell me exactly what is on his mind.

| And then there is Nicholas' "Mom, it tastes AWFUL" expression with ears
flat to the sides of the head - much like Yoda in the Star Wars movies.
He uses this one when taking medicine or when getting his ears cleaned.

1493.8 | How about a bushy *cat*? | HLIS07::VISSERS | Oranje boven! | Sat Jul 02 1988 12:42 | 17 |
| I really had a good laugh (ok, I'm mean ;-)) when I witnessed that
only time I saw my little o'cuty Chanel get really angry. I had
a visiting stray cat then and after the obligatory hisses and growls
Chanel (2 kilo only!) decided it was attack time...She drove the
stray under the bed, I followed and saw Chanel standing beside the
bed, ears forward, pupils almost invisible, and bushy *all over*!
I picked her up very gently and she was trembling all over. After
a bit of cuddling she calmed down a bit, so I could route the stray
cat back to the central hall outside my appartment. Together with
my neighbours we got the stray temporary to a shelter...the idea
of that cat staying with me until we found a home for her was a
bit abandoned after this clear no-vote from Chanel. The stray has
now found a home... and it didn't take more than half an hour for
Chanel to forget the incident. But I still can picture her with
every single hair (including those from her head) standing up...

Yes the Yoda Look! When I took Koko to the vets for the first time
she had earmites and the vet gave her some medicine. I thought
Koko would never forgive me for laughing at her in front of the
vet - she looked just like Yoda with the flat ears.
Now when we give both the kitties their ear medicine - my husband
and I die of laughter (but we try not to do it in front of them)!

| After showing me how to massage ear medication into a cat's ear
last year, my vet laughed and gave the "official" name to the
resulting condition [see title]!

| Gee Pen, that's what the breeders of Scottish Fold say that
their competition have when they don't have the tight ear set!

| I call it airplane ears also and Joui and Kyrielle both do it when
they are chasing toys. First the ears go down and then the butt
starts to wiggle. It is really cute.
One of the kittens from Joui's last litter also does this. Her
new owner is a photo buff and has taken several hilarious photos
of her with her airplane ears. Lucky for me that he is willing
to share them.
