    I agree with you Brian.  Sammie's birthday is June 14 (I know cos
    I watched him being born) but I don't exactly know when Dillan's
    is (it's some time between 1st and 14th June) so we have one big
    celebration on 14th June for the pair of them...Dillan is one year
    older than Sammie though...Dillan =5 and Sammie =4.

Samson the fearless (and motionless) and Sir Nicholas Longtail are both
8 years old today! Their friends and family call them Sammy and Nick.

P.S.  I thought they were going to be 9, but I miscounted...their really
8 years old...so they get a year back...Now THAT'S a birthday present!

         Let's see now ... all of our guys have "estimated" birthdays,
    as two were gotten from shelters and one was inherited.
    
         Loki - 25 June - 7 years old Saturday.
         Fluffy - 31 October (boo!) - will be 6 years old.

Happy 16th (!!!) birthdays to Kali Mutu and Munchkin.  Peter and I were 
debating whether to have a "sweet 16" party for them, but opted for 
extra goodies (food).  Besides regular "people" tuna, Mutu got some ham 
(favorite food), Munchkin some Chef Boyardee Ravioli sauce (favorite 
food), and, of course, chicken.

    Nikki has owned me for 5 1/2 years - he is my very first black boy.
    I went shopping at the Lowell Humane Society and wanted a black
    cat - Nikki was the "only" cat at the shelter - he was laying on
    his back waving his paws through the bars trying to catch me as
    I came near his cage!  Boy, was it my lucky day.  He is a very
    very special boy.

	Happy Birthday to Jenny and C.C., who are 8 months old today.
	Next week at this time, they'll be at the vet's for a little
	operation.  They are both such tiny cats, though - they aren't

	 Josh & Becky are 5 today.  Gee, does that mean I have to enroll
     them  in  Kittendergarten?  Like Pookie, Josh and Becky have simple
     requests  for  presents - Josh wants a Harley, lots of treats and a
     weight-lifting   set.    Becky   wants  hugs  and  kisses,  treats,
     permission  for  her  security  blanket  to  be  allowed out of the
     basement,  a bird book and a record of their calls so she can learn
     them  and  call them on her own.  She thinks she doesn't quite have
     the  right  inflection in her voice and that that's why none of the
     birdies come when she calls.

        I need to  update  the situation on C.C., but she's the kitten
        with the bad eye that we saved from the final solution.  She's

        the prettiest (in our opinion anyway) bluepoint  Siamese we've

    Happy 17th (yes, 17) Birthdays to Kali Mutu (July 16) and Munchkin
    (August 12) - my geriatric Siamese!  Boy, it's hard to believe that 
    they're 17, and here's hoping that they're with Peter and me for a 
    lot more years.  Peter will tease me about the extra stools/chairs
    I have to help them jump up (down is no problem, but up is more
    of a jump-scramble due to their arthritis) to their favorite spots.
    I reply, "When you're their age, you'll be entitled to some help
    too!".  They are slowing down a bit, getting a little deaf, getting
    a little gray or their color is fading, sleeping a little more, but
    all things considered, they're in great shape.
    
    Hope this makes all of you very hopeful - to see long-lived "fur-faces",
    and I hope you have as many years as I have - or more - to enjoy your

    	time frame, 1979.  Happy 10th to my lady Smoke.

    	was still VERY young, so I'll guess the same late July or

Yes, she is a cutie.  But...don't get the wrong idea.  If she were a male, she
would have the more accurate name - Ivan the Terrible!  That just didn't sound
right on her.  She has grown up a bit, and terrorizes everyone else at her 
leisure.  She also has a way of butting at their faces and necks until they
just give up and wash her face for her. PUSHY!

    Cin,as you know Pookie is "trying to make sure " that Preschie
    only leanrs about the finer things in life, ie money, toys, bridge,

      Cin, that is true..I  gave HRH her presents, she looked at them,
    sniffed them.. and FLOUNCED OFF(read in the Haughty fashion,, )
    brought the ones you sent home.. she flipped them around, pounced on

    this was not "A TOKEN PLAY PERIOD.."..you should have seen
    the look on Happys face(not to mention mine)..and of course Preshie

    EmacX Cattery is very proud to announce the birth of it's first
    litter of Exotic kittens (hopefully Exotics - won't know for a
    few weeks if they are long or shorthaired).
    
    Mary Lou's Mardi Gras of Meadowlark gave birth to five, that's
    5, bouncing babies - two girls and three boys.  Their colors
    are:  a BlueCream girl, a Cream girl, a Red boy, and 2 Cream boys.
    
    Needless to say, both Mother and Grandmother are VERY proud and very
    happy.  Mother and babies are ALL doing very well and all the babies
    seem very healthy to date.  I'm not sure if they are kittens or puppies
    cause they almost all weighed more than 2 ozs.  2 , 2, 2.5, 4, and 3.
    They look like ConeHeads - guess Persian babies look like that cause
    of the doming and high flat foreheads ???

    finding it difficult to leave those babies to come to work. I'm
    glad it's over and all is well.

    I think I will have lots of poo - in a few weeks!!  Poo for five
    is a bunch!  Leaving Mom in charge makes it easy to go to work.
    She is a great mother - I'm really very proud of her.  Poor Lil
    doesn't quite know what to make of the squirming mass in the
    box!  Little does she know, but it's her turn next month!
    The love of her life is going to come to visit her!  Hmm, more
    poo babies in June!!  Or shall I say Lily babies!  Yummmy!

    Thanks, guys!  It's really NICE to have all these aunties and uncles!
    I've told the kits all about all of you, and they were so excited.
    They asked me when you all were going to visit them and bring them
    toys!!!  Little beggers!  They are taking lessons from Lil - who
    is ignoring this whole thing with her nose in the air!  She is such
    a spoiled brat!  Actually, I'm really looking forward to this weekend
    to spending the WHOLE weekend with Lily - I haven't had much time for
    her or the other kids this week since the babes arrived.  I've had
    to rearrange my schedule, which is settling down a bit.  I miss my
    time with Lil!
    
    Can I tell cone-head stories instead of poo-head stories - these kids
    have high pointed heads!  I'm gonna make little knitted caps to sit
    on the top of their pointed heads !!

    Happy Birthday to Mistral and Mo!
    
    Mistral and his litter-brother Mo (Morning Sun Rising) are one year
    old today! It was great seeing Mo again at the RI show this past
    weekend. Mo's owners, Curt and Jan Gabbard have done a great job
    campaigning Mo this year and are doing very well with him. It was fun 
    to see the brothers competing again ..for the first time as adults.
    
    Mo, already a Grand, made two finals and Mistral (may have) earned his
    Grand Championship. Not a bad way to celebrate your first birthday!
    
    Linda ...who is proud of both of them.   :^)

So, Elaine, do you find that you spend an inordinate amount of time sitting
on the floor staring at the kittens and stroking them with just one finger?
Do you get up in the middle of the night (6 or 7 times) to make sure everyone
is OK?  Do you check out the way their fur grows and how their little paws
move at the speed of sound??

And in about 10 days, you'll call in sick cause their eyes are opening and
you just don't want to miss it.

Ah, kittens....

    Ah, Mary - how well you know!  Their eyes are just begining to
    think about opening - another day to two.  But, they are a week
    old tonight - and, lordy, they are fat and so cute!  The red boy
    is a hoot - he lays on his back on my hand with his little arms
    down by his sides and raises his chin so I can scratch underneath.
    He loves to have his tummy rubbed!  It's so funny when they are 
    lined up like ducks nursing.  Sometimes there are 3 creams in a row
    with a bluecream and a red on each end.  I just sit on the toilet
    and watch and watch and watch.  Then I realize that it's one o'clock
    in the morning and I gotta go to bed and then work.  Yup, I ruffle
    their fur a few times a day.  Checking for long and short hairs.
    I check their tiny toes and feet - they have tree trunks for legs
    and arms.  One of them has feet big enough to stomp out forrest fires!
    My best guess right now, is 4 shorthairs and one longhair !!  I
    think that there is one cream longhair - I forget if it's a girl or
    boy.  If I hear one squeal, I dash to the door to make sure Mardi Gras
    is being careful and not stepping on them.  She is just the best Mom
    ever - the 3 creams weigh 6 oz. and the red boy and bluecream girl
    weigh 5 oz.  I think I have a litter of puppies !!  I will probably
    get nothing done this weekend cause their eyes will probably open and
    I will be playing with them all of both days !  If anyone wants to 
    come see them, give me a buz.  Just remember, I check pockets and
    purses on the way out!!
    
    Sorry to run on, but it's my first ya know!
    
    

    Just wait til they give you their first hiss!!  That is my favorite
    time.  They are so cute.

Oh, that first hiss!!  I'll never forget when one of Meg's kittens hissed at
me for the first time.  It was little Julie, the smallest, ugliest thing I'd
ever seen (gotta admit, that was one ugly kitten, ET!), and she looked up
at me, all 8 ounces of her and put her entire self into a hiss.  I laughed
so hard!!  Then they go thru a 'brat' stage when they hiss at everything--me,
Mother Meggie, food, each other...

I also love to watch them learn how to wash their faces.  Pretty soon they
learn it's easier if they sit down first.  It's fun to watch them falling
over as they try to get their faces clean.  Little Scooter (who now lives 
with Jan and Ron Brown) used to crack me up cause he always had a face covered
with food.  He'd eat and then come running to Meg or me for a quick washup!

    Wow, that's really cute.  These kids are yawning - it's a real hoot!
    If I move one and wake it up, it lets out a squeal like someone is
    doing kitty abuse to it and Mardi comes running over with a look
    that would do damage!  
    
    Mary, Julie may not have been the prettiest kitty, but not ugly.
    Come on now, she wasn't THAT bad.  I think by the weekend they
    will really be fun!  Mary, I'm gonna make dunce caps for these
    kids - I guess persian babies all have that high rounding sort
    of with their ears sort of hanging off down on the sides of
    their necks almost like their ears are attached to their necks
    instead of their heads.  Ah, maybe that's what the little bluecream
    girl is trying to do - HISS.  She opens her mouth but nothing
    happens!  hmmm.  I"ll be she will be the first to hiss.  She is
    the oldest by 20 minutes!  You should see them box and fist fight
    when one is nursing from a nipple that the other one thinks he
    should have!   It's a miracle that they don't become bloodied 
    from all the scrapping at the fountain!  Then if they can't
    detach the guilty one, they start head bumping him away screeching
    all the while they are boxing!  It's a real hoot!  This is more fun
    than I ever thought it would be.

    The babies PURRRRRED last night!  I was so impressed!  Now, they
    yawn and purrr.  I thought I was hearing things - but, nope, their
    little bodies were vibrating with the pur - I even had to put one
    finger under a neck just to make sure!  Little cuties!

    Hey Grandma Mary - I can hardly keep my eyes open - I have been
    on the floor beside the box for an hour before I go to bed!  I
    haven't figured it out yet that in order to play with them for
    an hour (or just watch them) I'd better start an hour earlier !!
    I weighed them again last night - they ALL weigh 6 oz. - those
    little girls may not be quite so little very soon!  I can hardly
    wait for their eyes to open !  What's so amazing is how LOUD their
    voices are - boy, can they scream !!  If I make one scream, MG gives
    me such a look - last night I was patting them while she was in the
    box - the little red boy was hungry, but he always heads in the wrong
    direction (must be the persian in him !!) and he screeches and yowls,
    so MG keep trying to hug him with her paw - she then moves him under
    her neck and rubs her head on him to comfort him.  It's really
    something to watch her with them.  MG keeps glancing up at me to see
    what I am going to do to them next!  I almost have to wear ear plugs
    when it's bath time - she really gives them the once over!  A person
    can hear them down town Candia, they yell so loud!

well, Tabitha is getting shy about her age...not as young as she used to
be y'know...but she has finally agreed that I can announce that she has
launched her 17th year of life as of Sept. 28, 1990.  We are, of course,

shopping spree - naturally...and Sam and Nick broke out the bubbly for
the occasion.  A grand time was had by all.

    tuna.  Much to her credit, Bonnie checked with me to be sure that I

    ones (three of whom are as big or bigger than Bonnie now).  They were
    very disappointed this morning when all they got was OMH for breakfast.
    I suspect Bonnie will be ordering a few Pizzas today to make up for
    it.  So if you think your feline may have snuck out today, I suspect
    they went to the Birthday/Halloween party at our place.  :-)

	PURRKINS, "Bumblelion", has achieved the notable distinction of
having acheived the ripe old age of ONE!!!  There were certain in the
household who would have never believed this was possible.  Cassandra,
who will be TWO next month has endured this past year and is pleased to
note that Purrkins has acheived a modicum of maturity and does not act
like a stupid "boy" all the time, just most of it. The venerable sage,
Peaches, approaches his 14th birthday, he is less bothered with sneak
attacks than previously and, occasionally, even find it fun to engage in
a short game of "Romp".

	"The Bumblelion" has now grown to 13 1/2 lbs and is just about
4 feet long when fully stretched out, tail and all. This is particularly
noticible when subjecting his "keepers" to a session of "Pet The Cat",
which occurs anytime either Jane or I wish to read the newspaper.

    Rusty & Pepper have now reached the age of TWO!
    
    It seems like only yesterday when I brought home these
    two scrawny, undernourished, parasite ridden kittens.
    Rusty now weighs in at a glorious 12 lbs and is twice
    the size of his brother, Pepper.  But, even though he's
    not large, Pepper is one fast, wiry little bugger!

It is now timme for me to add that today is No Minor Dude's first birthday.  The
Dude-ster isn't my cat, but I am his grandma as he is Kalliste's son.  But, in
order to camaflouge (sp) my age, I let him call me "auntie". :^)

Sunday is Laci's birthday.  We are planning a very special party for her this
year as she has had a very difficult year, what with the bullet wound and all.
She will be three years old on the 31st!  

Kaitlin, Moody's mom, will be 4 years old tomorrow.  Kaitlin no longer lives
with me though, she has a very nice new home in American Canyon, CA.  I will 
have to send her a birthday card and let her know that I still think about her
and miss her very much. :^(

    This is a big birthday time of the year at my house too.  I am afraid
    that I may have forgotten about Mirabel's birthday.  :^(  She was 2 on
    March 19th.  Monroe is going to be 10 this month, but I can't remember
    the day.  I do remember that it is the same day that President James

    Yep Jo Ann, 5 years since you put that little blue cream ball of
    fluff in my arms before showing me the Maine Coon type kittens I
    originally was supposed to be viewing.  Funny how I never wanted
    to look at another kitten after those beautiful eyes looked up at
    me.  Bailey, I thank you for showing me that I truly was a cat person.
    
    Yep, 5 years since the Napa show when everyone ganged up on me to
    take that sweet brown tabby with white fluffball with the tons of
    extra skin and the major case of earmites home.  Boy was I surprise
    when she came down with a king sized cold the next day and promptly
    shared it with Bailey.  I can't believe I tried to call the person
    I got her from and ask her to take her back.  She was sooooo sick
    and they spent the next 3 months passing it back and forth between
    them.  Amelia, I thank you for your faith in me as a kitty-mom and
    for showing me what unconditional love is all about.

    phone calls at all hours of the day or night with dumb questions
    about kitty health (and I'm still doing it on a smaller scale aren't
    I).  You have a trememdous amount of cat knowledge tucked away that
    I truly value and I thank you for pushing me towards my first two
    feline friends.

    Well, I'm a week or so late in wishing my Sneakers a happy birthday. 
    He was two years old in April.  He's changed from the scurrying little
    kitten into a big, mellow lovable lummox.  Happy second birthday
    Sneakers, and here's hoping we'll enjoy many, many more.

    Today is Misha's 2nd birthday.  I remember so vividly, the morning he
    and his 3 sisters were born.  Lizette was very considerate, and waited
    until 8:00 AM Sunday morning.  She had all 4 by a little after 10:00. 
    What a wonderful mother she was.  Now Misha can be an awful pest to his
    mom.  He is a beautiful boy, follows us around like a puppy dog, and
    gazes up at us with those beautiful big blue eyes.   
    
    I would also like to wish Marnie a Happy Birthday.  He was 1 year old
    April 18.  We were in NZ at the time so we couldn't celebrate with him
    then. ;-)  He is our little Scottish Fold and he's so incredibly cute
    and cuddly.

Well, Honey and Chauncey do indeed share a birthday...but all I can do for
Robin, Biff and Mikey is guess since I don't know the exact dates.  Gee,

BTW, when Jeanne DeFranco adopted Sweetie, I gave her the kitten's medical
records with not only the date of birth, but the exact time as well.  Her
vet said he had never seen that done before!

    with their breakfast this morning. :^)

    Happy 19th birthdays to Kali Mutu and Munchkin -- our "ancient, old and
    decrepit" Siamese fur-faces!!  Mutu is finally showing her 
    age - sleeps more, getting gray, a little deaf, and slightly arthritic,
    but still very playful and vocal.  Munchkin, for all his chronic
    ailments (diabetes, beginning nephritis, arthritis) is also still going 
    strong, although if he gets any more flat-footed, he'll be walking on his
    elbows!
    
    I guess the old adage, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks", also
    holds true for old pussycats.  A few week-ends ago, we were in New
    Jersey (visiting the in-laws), and the Garden State Cat Club Show was
    being held near-by.  The whole family (6 of us) attended, and had a
    wonderful time.  Peter found a large, booda (sp?) box at a very
    reasonable price.   Since Munch misses the pan a lot (as long as the
    four feet are in the pan, who cares if the tush isn't?), we thought it
    might help, and if not, we'd store the box for future use (kittens).  
    Knowing Munch so well, Peter thought the only thing he'd do would stick
    his head in the hole!  
    
    After a couple of days, Munch decided he didn't like the whole deal,
    and crapped in Peter's office - love the way they make a statement!
    I removed the hood, but left the pan,because the sides are higher, so I 
    thought less spillage, right?  No way!  He didn't even come near the pan, 
    or insisted (as only Siamese can insist) to be put in the pan -- 
    "Gee, Mom, it's too high, and my legs hurt!".
    
    Needless to say, the old pan is back!
    
    Boy, do they have us (me) trained!!!
    
    

    Today is a rather sad day for me.  Today would have been Kalliste's
    birthday.  God I miss that cat!!

    Happy Birthday CH Sacrechat's Jouissance de Mysinhs!!  She is five
    years old today.  Joui will always hold a special place in my heart
    since she is my first purebred cat, my first Birman cat, the mother of
    my first Grand Champion, and she is totally devoted to me, and I to
    her.  She is definitely a one person cat, and I was lucky enough to be
    chosen to be that special person. :^)
    
    Joui has also taught me quite a bit about being a breeder.  She was my
    first show cat and did herself proud.  She taught all about traveling
    with cats, sending cats away for breeding, taking care of a pregnant
    cat, delivering litters, and raising kittens.  She also gave me my
    first pyometra, which she promptly recovered from, as though she only
    went through it so that I would know what to do if it ever happened to
    another cat in the future. :^)
    
    Happy Birthday Joui!  May we have many more happy years together.

Sounds like there's a story to go with this.......    

	Arrgh!  I forgot to wish a Happy Birthday to Beau, who turned 2
	yesterday.  Poor baby is still having sinus problems, but the
	vet believes they've identified the 'germ' and know what it's
	sensitive to, so he's being treated right now.  Hope he gets
	better soon.

    Dewhead Short version of story:
    
    I believe I did put the story in the notesfile...but I can't
    remember the number.
    
    When we first got Dewey he was very small.  Well he was sitting
    on the kitchen table playing with my strap on my pocketbook.  I
    walked in the living room to do something...and within two minutes
    I heard this awful cry for help.  (MMMMEEEEOOOOOWWWW) I ran in
    the kitchen to find Dewey's paw all tangled in the strap BUT...
    somehow he had also got his claw stuck in his nose.  Don't even
    ask me how he did this...but he was all tangled up.   Never ever
    have I seen a claw stuck in a cats nose...but leave it to Dewey...who
    always gets himself in trouble...to find a way.
    
    After a few more not so smart incidents.....Dewey got the nickname
    Dewhead. (Ernie hates it when I call him that...but it kind of
    stuck)   No many brains...but god what a heart on this guy!!!

    Webster's defines Nepenthe as being a potion used by the ancients to
    induce forgetfulness of pain and sorrow, or something capable of
    causing oblivion of grief or suffering.  This is what my Nepenthe has
    been for me.  He helped me through the most difficult year of my
    life.  What a gentle and loving soul he is.  I am most grateful to be
