1467.0. "DERMCAPS question..." by MARS::FAMULARO (Joe, ZKO3-2T43, DTN381-2565) Thu Jun 16 1988 12:53

Has anyone had experience using a product called Dermcaps, some type of
fatty acid pills, for their cats? It is supposedly used for the
    treatment of skin related problems.

    Any info much appreciated.

I don't have any info on Dermcaps, but my vet put Alex on a fatty
acid supplement for his skin condition -- dry skin, loss of fur,
constant scratching and biting at his skin, yucky-feeling fur...
The supplement is "PET-TABS/F.A. Granules with ZINC, a Palatable
Dietary Supplement for Dogs and Cats" (not a commercial, just a
    quote!).

This stuff works great! It took about 3 weeks for his fur to become
reconditioned. I sprinkle 1/2 to 1 teaspoon in his food at night
and mash it in. He either likes the flavor or doesn't notice it.
It also covers all his vitamin needs.

    I don't know if it's available commercially, but I purchase a large
tub ($10.00 for 650 grams) from my vet and can recommend the product.

I've used the PET-Tab power also - mostly between seasons for
a little extra vitamin boost to keep the sneezies down to a
minimum - between winter and spring especially, they seem to
need that extra little something! It seems to help & most of
my guys like the taste when it's mixed with their food. I
get it at PETcetra in Hudson, NH, but I think Vet's & Pet
    Suppy places carry it.
