I have never heard of it but I would be interested as I too have
a very static cat and the other one's fur come out in small clumps
with dry skin on the end (doesn't seem to bother him but it does
me)

| I never noticed if Corkie sparked in the dark or not, but she's
a long-hair too and the bad part was when I pet her, I'd shock her
little nose with static. I began giving her a vitamin that had
zinc and PABA in it (the same stuff sun-screen has in it). It was
suggested by my vet to eliminate her dry skin. It took care of
her dry skin and fur and seems to eliminate static as well!

RE.1 I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY KITTEN (ONLY HAD HIM FOR
2 WEEKS). WILL BE INTERESTED BY THE OUTCOME FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
HOWEVER, MY RABBIT PRESENTLY HAS A MAJOR DRY SKIN PROBLEM WITH CLUMPS
OF FUR FALLING OUT (SHE'S ALMOST BALD IN SEVERAL PLACES). MY VET
SAID IT'S A VITAMIN DEFICIENCY, SO I'M TREATING THAT PRESENTLY WITH
A VITAMIN SUPPLEMENT. YOUR CAT WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS MAY HAVE
A VITAMIN DIFFICIENCY. YOU SHOULD CHECK WITH YOUR VET ABOUT SOLUTION.
SOMEWHERE IN THIS NOTE FILE IS A SUBJECT ON DRY SKIN AND IT DISCUSSES
SOLUTIONS SUCH AS VITAMIN DEFICIENCIES AND THE USE OF LACTAID(?).
(SORRY I DON'T REMEMBER WHERE IT IS IN THIS MASSIVE FILE)

1430.5 | Eggs not good for cats? | CLOSUS::HOE | Colorado's the place to be. | Tue Jun 07 1988 11:53 | 13 |
| My spouse talked to the vet yesterday as we were shareing notes;
they suggested that a food diet with zinc (now where do you find
food with mineral contents in cat food).
The other suggestion was the food should have poly-unsaturated
fats in it. We said the cat had always had a mixture of one egg
and two table spoons of vegetable oil in her food that we mixed
in the 16 oz cans weekly.
What surprised me was that they told Judy that the cat should not
have eggs as there's an enzyme in eggs that isn't good for cats.

1430.6 | Filobits | DPDMAI::BALL | I AM standing up! | Tue Jun 07 1988 14:26 | 13 |
| It's the raw egg white that isn't good for them. It binds up biotin
in their bodies which results in a Vitamin B deficiency. I'm not
sure of the essentiality of Vitamin B, but from what my vet said,
the B complex is as important in cats as in humans. It will probably
be difficult to find a food with added zinc, but it can be given
as a vitamin suppliment. One that is good is called Filobits. It
has a picture of Garfield on the front, and I get it from the vets.
They smell like the hairball paste so I guess they have malt in
them. Corkie thinks they're treats (and I won't tell her different).
They're soft so she eats em right up.

skin/skin problem notes that I wanted to respond to with the same
reply!)
