1385.0. "naughtiest cat in the world" by CGVAX2::WEISMAN () Thu May 19 1988 10:24

    I just wanted to let everyone know what a bad kitty
    Tasha Marie is. She caught and killed a bunny! I am
    totally disgusted with her and her grandmother (my mother)
    has practically disowned her. Of course she didn't
    understand what all the ruckus was about and was quite
    pleased with herself.

1385.12nd naughtiest kittens!!58355::STRONACHThu May 19 1988 10:5033
                        -< naughtiest cat in the world >-

  I know exactly how you feel!! One of our cats brought home their "trophy"
  (dead bunny) and placed in on the kitchen floor (I suspect Boo Boo) --
  the next morning, my husband was sitting at the kitchen table eating his
  cereal and all of sudden he heard this whoosing (sp?) behind head and when
  he turned, he was a live bird flapping its wings like crazy and all five
  cats running around -- he thought he was having a nightmare - he's not a
  great morning person. He yelled for me to help -- we opened all the doors
  and as the bird fly around I ducked down and closed my eyes. Finally
  silence -- thinking the bird fly out -- he proceeded to finish his
  cereal -- then along comes Beau Beau jumping up and down in the front of
  the sink -- then we heard a flutter -- here was the bird under the cutting
  board -- my husband was able to pick it up and let it go out the door.

              End of story, oh no!

  The next morning my husband woke me up and said for me not to get
  excited but the dining room was wall to wall feathers -- enough for me
  me make a nice big pillow -- they must have finally gotten the bird!!

  Poor bird - poor bunny --

  Now we don't keep the door open for them to run back and forth and I'm
  in the process of finding break-away collars with bells on them!!

  All I can envision is them bringing in a snake!!!

  Now I'm concerned since they ate the bird if they may get fleas and worms!!

1385.2glad she's not the only bad oneCGVAX2::WEISMANThu May 19 1988 11:2016

    Thank goodness my experience was not that bad. My husband
    went to the door to let her in, and all of a sudden I heard
    him say "bad Tasha Marie, your not coming in this house".And then
    he said she's got something in her mouth thats as big as she is
    (she only weighs 5 pounds). It was dark out so we couln't see
    what she had. I was thinking it might be a rat or a possum, but
    we found the bunny the next morning. We did get Tasha in the house
    (minus the rabbit) that night so she couldn't get at it. She kept
    telling us all about it for hours. We do keep joking around and
    asking her "What are your going to bring home next, a beaver or
    a muskrat etc." I am so happy to hear she is not the only rabbit
    catcher, Thanks!

    I have rabbits and a cat, the cat has never bothered the rabbits.
     I hope all these rabbits were not someones pets. You do get attached
    to rabbits as well as cats. I would suggest if you have hunters,
    that you put warning bells on them, for all the defensless animal.
1385.4Easter bunniesHPSVAX::JSURETTEThu May 19 1988 11:5910
    Many years ago, my old cat (who has since gone to kitty heaven)
    brought home three (count 'em, three) dead baby rabbits on Easter
    morning.

    I'm glad my family was old enough to understand that these bunnies
    were not the easter bunny and his friends.

1385.5I thought it was funny..DELNI::SCHWINDTThu May 19 1988 17:0922
    I heard a story the other day..... this happend to a friend of
    mine recently.

    My friend Frannie's cat had dragged home a rabbit which happened
    to belong to a neighbor of hers (pet rabbit). Fran was so upset
    and she had no idea what to do about it. I guess the neighbors
    hated the cats. Anyway, with panic in mind, Fran cleaned up the
    rabbit as best as she could and *replaced* the dead rabbit in the
    cage. When she happened to go for a walk later that day, the
    neighbor called over to her to come into the yard. Fran bit
    her lip and went to see what her neighbor wanted.

    The neighbor was completely surprised - it turned out that that
    the rabbit had died the day before and they had buried it!
    The neighbor couldn't beleive how the dead rabbit had *risen*
    out of the grave and got back into the cage!!!!!!

    {whew....} The cat stays inside now....... no more false
    alarms for Frannie!

    P.S.: It's unfair to call a cat "naughty" because he or she brings
    home a kill to share with her or his "parents." The kitty thinks
    he or she is noing the nicest thing she or he can. Cats are _proud_
    of their kills (they're natural hunters, after all). One can mourn
    the bunny or bird without condemning the kitty. And unless you,
    the reader, are a vegetarian, it borders on the hypocritical to
    find a cat's killing "game" wrong: after all, the bunny or bird
    had a better chance of getting away than the steer or chicken.
    And if you _are_ a vegetarian, understand that what you feed your
    caty is animal product; a cat cannot exist healthily on an
    all-vegetable  diet.

    Right you are, Steve. Kitties are very proud of their kills. I
    remember the first time Missy came home with a little thingie.
    She put it at the front door on the porch and proceded to reinact
    t the crime. The fact that she dragged it home only shows
    how much she loved and wanted to provide for me. Over the years,
    Missy became quite the "great hunter". I would always praise her
    highly when she would bring home dinner. Of course at the same
    time I'd be holding my nose as I tried to poke the poor dead whatsis
    into a paper bag with a ten foot pole :^).

RE: Kills

20 years ago, I had Shaman - neutered male tiger stripe and a very sick
rescue case dobie that I was trying to save....we lived way out in the
country so Shaman got to go out in the evenings before dinner so he
would come home before bed-time. One day he brought in a dead rabbit
and placed it under the dobie's nose and then backed away and waited
for her to eat it. I was really touched that he cared about a sick
dog that was an "intruder" in his home and praised him lavishishly
for his generosity...then I removed the dead rabbit and disposed of
it. Shaman was a real gentleman when it came to sharing with his
guests.

    If your puss brings you a present, is it because s/he thinks you
    are a quasi-kitten s/he has to feed? (Poor giant, can't catch a mouse
    to save itself....)

1385.14That reminds me....SUBURB::TAYLORSMINNIEMon May 23 1988 12:2321

    Reading this note brought back a few memories....the funniest one
    was when Elsa (RIP) had just had a litter (4 beautiful kitties)
    she wouldn't let poor Dillan (her brother) have anything to do with
    them, so he looked in from afar.

    One day there was a lot of clattering through the cat flap and then
    Dillan appeared with a baby (wild) rabbit in his mouth....to my
    surprise he hadn't killed it but was trying to carry it (by the
    scruff of it's neck) back to the house as though it were one of
    the kittens that had escaped and he was returning it. The rabbit
    was fine except for a nose bleed it gave itself by struggling!!!!

    The other not so funny story was when I had all three kids I awoke
    one morning to find Dillan and Elsa at the top of the bed (one either
    side of me, Sam at the bottom R/H corner and........a dead bird
    in the bottom L/H corner.....What a lovely present for breakfast!!!!!!!
