1356.1 | High sides might work | GRECO::MORGAN | Doris Morgan DTN 223-9594 | Wed May 11 1988 00:06 | 5 |
| I solved this exact problem by using a litter box with high sides so
the cat's rear end CAN'T hang over the edge of the box! I got a large
tub from Spag's for $7 that works perfectly...if you want details
contact me off-line. You might also consider trying a covered litter
box, but some cats won't accept it.

| I think you answered your own question and solved your problem.
Spend more time with her. When cats exhibit behaviorall problems,
sometimes it IS because they are feeeling neglected. I guess
their needs change - like ours do - only they can't talk - just
act! Actions speak louder than words.

| Is the box big enough for the cat? Is the box clean? They don't
like to stand in their poop.

1356.4 | perhaps a combination of problems? | IOWAIT::WILDE | Being clever is tiring.. | Wed May 11 1988 16:47 | 12 |
| When I first adopted Sam and Nick, Sam was VERY particular about how much
litter should be in the box...too much go thrown out onto the floor with
great flourishes, too little and he hung his rear out the side and used
the paper around the box, but not the box. He is also very prone to
leave a "hint" outside the box if he feels it is TOO used...for him, that
works out to approx. 3 days (even though I sift all solids out
and turn the litter each morning). I have now got the biggest litter
box that is sold, I very carefully fill only to his mark, and I change
the kitty litter 3 times a week. It's expensive, but I luv 'em.

| So far, I appreciate all of the input. I did try the covered litter
box and both cats eyes turned yellow before they entered it. I haven't
tried a real high box though.
The box is freshened (scooped out) daily, sometimes twice and changed
overall at least every three days since I have two. When I tried
two litter boxes it was met with the same result though.
As far as giving her attention, that too is hard to determine since
there's nno consistency on her part. Somedays a few minutes play
is fine, other days she wants my undivided attention for the duration.
I usually try to let her determine the time, letting her stalk off
when she's had enough ... still doesn't mean she uses the box though.
I really appreciate the input though, and will keep trying.
Thanks
Heidi (Mouse and Tiggr too)
