1354.0. "REVERSED GUM DESEASE WITH DIET" by SKITZD::WILDE (Being clever is tiring..) Tue May 10 1988 17:14
SCIENCE DIET DRY FOOD REVERSED GINGIVITIS!!
This is a fact. My friend with a 13 year old female named Tiny called
approx. 5 months ago very concerned because the vet we both go to said
that Tiny required dental treatment for advanced gingivitis...this
means the cat would have to be "put under" general anesthetic and we all
were concerned whether Tiny would survive it at this age. I suggested
she stop feeding anything but Science Diet kibble for a few months and
see if the gums got worse - if not, maybe some other way of treating
the problem could be found. The vet agreed that he wanted her on
superior food for at least 3 months and then do a complete blood work
up before he tried the dental work.
Ann was working last Saturday and asked me to take Tiny in to get her
blood work done (Ann had worried enough about the teeth she had
decided to go ahead and try treatment). When Dr. Lee saw Tiny's
mouth, HE WAS AMAZED. He said there was no reason to treat her now,
as the gingivitis was cleared up! He said he had never seen such
a thing before and asked what the cat ate. I told him she had free
feeding of dry Science diet Cat food and lots of fresh water - period.
He told me that this was the first time he had seen gingivitis
improve without treatment and suggested Ann stay on the Kibble only
for the rest of Tiny's life.....Tiny would prefer otherwise, but
as Dr. Lee said, if the cat is healthy and not stressed it won't
starve if food is available - and there are real reasons to change
Tiny to dry kibble only.

That's great news but can you get this diet in UK? I'll tell my
sister to speak to her vet as her little boy, Monty, suffers from
gingivitis.
Now if only I could get something like this for humans!!!

Sweetie. Available from your vet.
