1284.1 | Mom, I want some. NOW!!! | 58019::HTAYLOR | Cat lovers are a special breed | Wed Apr 20 1988 10:33 | 33 |
| Believe me, Tabbatha fits into this catagory. She will eat anything
that doesn't eat her first. I feed both Silver and Tabbatha at
the same time every morning and they eat right next to each other.
silver looks at hers, turns up her nose and looks at me as if to
say, "Mom, don't you have anything better than this junk?" and
she walks away. Meanwhile, Tabbatha looks at her and says, "Oh,
you're not going to eat yours? I'll eat it!" and proceds to eat
both hers and Silver's.
When I am eating something in the living room, no matter what it
it, Tabbatha has to try and have something. She has gone as far
as trying to take it out of my hands as I am putting it in my mouth.
Here are some of the foods she loves.
Any kind of fish (of course)
chicken
spare ribs
chow mein
tomato sauce
cheese!!!!
coke (she mainly likes to watch the bubbles)
potato chips
usually if I have a drink in the living room, I have got to make
sure I keep it in my hand. Otherwise, tabbatha gets up on the coffee
table and and takes a drink out of it. If it is all gone, I put
the glass on the table and Tabbatha comes in and sticks her whole
head down into the glass to see if there is any left. Then she
looks at me as if to say, "well, you could have saved me a little
bit!"

Tasha Marie likes strange things too. She likes vegtables (green
beans, peas, potatoes. She also likes pastry and cake! I can't
leave things wrapped up on the counter or she will get into them.
She has gotten into lemon meringue pie, chocolate cake, and
a blueberry turnover.

1284.6 | Pointers to other notes | VAXWRK::LEVINE | | Wed Apr 20 1988 11:45 | 18 |
|
I have found the following notes that deal with strange cat appetites:
79, 190, 273, 467, 491, 579, 746, 930, and 999. I'd be more than happy
to apply some sort of keyword to these notes, but can't figure out what
to call it: STRANGE_APPETITES, PIG_OUT, WEIRD_FOOD, etc. Any suggestions
cheerfully considered.
My cat Daisy thinks she wants whatever I'm eating, but most times refuses it
when offered. She will eat meat, fish, shellfish, nuts, and crackers on
occassion. Shamus is a glutton and will eat most things. However, the
strangest thing he likes is coffee. At first I thought he was attracted
to all the sugar and cream I dose my coffee with. But one day he went nuts
over the grounds left in the coffee grinder. Since coffee isn't particularly
good for cats, I try to keep him away from it, but I have to fight him off
each morning as he plants himself between me and my coffee cup with his
rear end in my face (what a way to face the morning!).

1284.8 | Is there a cat detox center around ... ? | MRESS::MIDTMOEN | Andrea and the Gang | Wed Apr 20 1988 12:14 | 9 |
| Re. .6 -
Loki loves it when my mother comes to visit, 'cause she drinks
coffee every morning (Howie and I hate coffee). Loki drinks just
a little bit, then gets drunk (as he does when he gets into the
catnip). Of course, Loki gets drunk on catnip, coffee and, believe
it or not, deodorant - he and Bigfoot like to stick their noses
under my arms after I've just put on the deodorant and a shirt and
sniff and sniff and sniff ... then proceed to roll around on the
floor with glazed eyes! Weird!

1284.9 | Another junkie! | VAXWRK::LEVINE | | Wed Apr 20 1988 12:36 | 13 |
| Re .8:
I guess Shamus and your cats have more in common than coffee - Shamus likes
to lick me under my arms after I've applied deodorant also! Each morning
I put on my deodorant and then proceed to do my back exercises and Shamus
usually takes this to mean that he should groom me before I go to work.
He licks and bites my underarms, arms, legs, and any other appendage he
can get near. He also likes to lick my ears, but I think it's because
he likes the hair mousse I use.
I think we have a few chemical junkies!

1284.10 | French fries instead of Fish! | EDUC8::TRACHMAN | | Wed Apr 20 1988 12:52 | 10 |
| Guess my guys are strange - they will turn their noses up
at fish, and grab for french fries, pizza, tomato sauce,
potatoes. Of course, there is Pashenka who will eat
anything even if it IS nailed down - he likes it best
if it comes from the trash can! He's doing better -
I guess the three cutting board on top of the can
could be working! I don't have to pick him out from the
bottom as often as I used to.

| My cat Buddy is just the opposite. He will not eat anything but
canned and dry cat food. He turns his nose up to fish and meats
and dairy products. My other cat Shadow will eat just about anything
that isn't dry cat food.
I have previously owned cats that likes pickles and olives. These
cats would sit in your lap when you were eating pickles and olives
and if you didn't give them some fast enough, they would slap it
out of your hands.

| Lizzie likes my Toddy cake - this contains whiskey, honey and lemon.
My husband feeds him bits of it when I'm not looking (or at least
he thinks I'm not looking!)
Lizzie also likes brazil nuts and, if he can get them, brazil nut
shells. He likes strawberry jam, cheese, and he loves microwave
popcorn. If we don't give him a fair share of the bag, he yowls.
It's Lizzie's second birthday today, maybe I should have made him
a Toddy birthday cake!

I hate to deprive him, but drunken moggies I will not tolerate (his
singing is bad enough when he's sober!)

I've covered that elsewhere in this file.

| Well, I hate to admit this, but Billie *loves* Twinkies. I know,
I know--she wouldn't have ever known about them if I hadn't succumbed
to buying a package of them last year. Since she always likes to
see what I'm eating (so she can decide whether or not it's worth
begging for), I held a half a Twinkie out to her, saying to my fiance,
"This'll fix her--she'll HATE this!" Big surprise--she liked it
so much she latched onto my hand and gobbled as much as she could
before I stopped laughing and took it away!!
They say that cats take on the characteristics of their owners;
looks like my cat could be a sugar junkie, too. The other side
of this story is that, months after the Twinkie episode, Billie
developed a bad tooth (talk about GUILT), and had to have it removed.
Of course, my fiance said, "It was that Twinkie!"
To this day I have never dared to bring home anything like that
and leave it out--I'd hate to wake up to my cat sprawled on the
floor in a sugar coma!!

Pepper loves vitamin E capsules and bee pollen tablets, both of

Poor Touey can't eat much more than Gerber baby meats as yet, although

a good food-processor to puree some goodies for him?)

| Whenever I have anything that resembles tomato sauce, Schnitzel
and I battle....She sits and watches me eat and tell her Mom will
leave some for her, so be patient (not one of her virtues). Well,
when Schnitz figures I've had my share and the rest should be for
her, she takes her paw and pushes my hand down and tries to stick
her nose in my dish! She is put on the floor (for the umpteenth
time) and told, again, I'll save some. Not good enough...so the
"battle" continues for a bit, then I give in.
Schnitzel also knows when a can of tuna is being opened. I don't
have an electric can opener, so it's not from the noise. She can
be out in the back field, I've barely opened the can and she's at
the door. Well she just falls all over herself 'cause she know
Mom will drain off the liquid and also give her some of the tuna
and tell her she's such a good girl. After she finishes her treat
I always get "tuna breath" kisses!

What about MICE? Do any of your cats actually eat mice? Yaddie
carries them into an open area and bats them around until she gets
bored ..... BUT, her brother Tiege, leaves nothin' but the little
bones! Another thing I did not hear mentioned is YOGURT ! When I
worked at the Riverdale Animal Hospital when i was younger I used
to eat yogurt on my lunchbreak. I would leave little gobs of yogurt
in all the healthy cats' cages...a quick way to warm up to the new
borders...Yaddie is VERY persistent when there is yogurt (any flavor)
being consumed in her presence...

the size & shape of a kidney bean.
W. also loves deli meats & anything with tomato sauce. One day
I made stuffed shells with a VERY spicy (hot) tomato sauce. When
I was done eating, I put the plate on the floor for W and he started
to lick up the tomato sauce. Within 3 minutes his eyes were watering
as if he was crying, but he kept eating until that tomato sauce
was gone. What a sight !

1284.29 | LIZZIE IS FINE | RDGENG::APRIL | | Fri Apr 22 1988 07:33 | 25 |
| RE : 15
Lizzie is fully recovered and you would find it hard to believe
that only about seven weeks ago I thought he was going to die.
The only difference between now and before his accident is that
he sometimes sits in a very strange position with one leg stuck
out straight in front of him. It looks very funny and rather
sweet. He is going out again now, but he doesn't go near the road
anymore.
As it was Lizzie's birthday yesterday, my Mum came around with her
cat and she brought two fishcakes from the fish and chip shop for
the two cats. My Mum is crazy as well as me! The fishcakes were
supposed to represent birthday cakes, but we didn't put any candles
in them! The cats loved them.
I've just remembered that Lizzie loves taramarsalata and I always
give him the empty pot to lick. He usually tries so hard to get
the last drop of the bottom of the pot that he ends up with it stuck
on his face. He then walks backwards around the floor until the
pot falls off, but he still goes back and does it again. Once he
finally gives up, he spends hours washing his face and licking his
whiskers.

| I can best describe taramarsalata as cod's roe pate. It is a
greek dish that is usually served with pitta bread and it is a
pinky colour. It sounds awful, but in fact is delicious - a
statement that Lizzie would agree with! Perhaps you don't have
it in the States?
Lizzie says yippee too - he didn't think he was going to get better

We certainly do have it in the US, it is a fairly common appetizer
at Greek restaurants. Some of us love it so much we have even found
local Greek grocery stores that sell the roe so we can make our own!
As I recall, it is basically roe, bread (white bread is the thickener)
and olive oil -- and it's wonderful, I agree with Lizzie.
