1283.0. "Another sicko strikes" by POOL::MURPHY (Is it Friday yet?) Tue Apr 19 1988 16:23

    While listening to Paul Harvey on WBZ just after noon today, one
    of his commentaries was on a man (I use the term loosely) who -
    because his wife went to the movies with a girlfriend - took his
    wife's pet kitten and put it in the microwave! @@##$@#

    All that's going to happen to this man is one night in jail!
    Don't remember what city/state as I was too angry when I heard what
    happened to the poor little kitten.

1283.1Grounds for DivorceMARRHQ::KORCHNAKTue Apr 19 1988 16:357
    If he was MY husband, I would seriously considering divorcing the
    S.O.B.

    As a matter of fact, to me, that WOULD be grounds for divorce.

    Take the couch, the TV, but NEVER touch my CATS!!!!

    what this guy should get is some time in the state mental institution!

    I agree with .1. That is DEFINITELY grounds for divorce. This
    guy is absolutely SICK! I would wonder how I ever married a man
    like that!

    I maybe wrong but I always try to understand the logic behind acts
    like this (ie what do they hope to achieve by doing something as
    diabolical as this to an innocent life).

    Well this time I couldn't and I think the only suitable punnishment
    is castration (sp???). Does he really think that sort of thing
    will stop his wife going out without him? Personally I don't blame
    her I would have gone out long before now, taken the cat(s) and
    never come back. I also think this is DEFINITELY grounds for divorce
    but somehow that would not be enough for me!!!

    He probably did it for attention. His wife went out to have fun
    without him, he felt neglected, and like a child, did something
    drastic to get her to notice him. Now he has got more than he wants,
    nationwide attention!

    or....

    It could be a simple act of revenge. He got revenge by destroying
    something his wife loved.

    Obviously there is something wrong with the marriage to make him
    feel this way. Though you can fix a marriage, unfortunately you
    can't fix the poor kitty.

        Ya, I saw that too. It said he got 30 in jail and also was required
    to pay $150 or spend another additional 5 days in jail, and he was
    also placed on 2 years probation.
        Seems he was in a drunken rage at the time.
        Well, even though he didn't get away scott free, I still think
    it would have been more fun to know that he went pop in the oven,
    too.
           This was in LA, by the way.

    In some small way...or should I say in some large way...I wish
    notes like this could be left unsaid. I tend to have nightmares
    about such things, and all I'll be able to do all day is see pictures
    of bad guys coming into my house and putting my little Schnapps
    in the nuker.

    We're all cat lovers here. And a support group for each other.
    Illnesses, losses, etc. are acceptable tearjerkers. But things
    like this are horrible! Why do we need to know?

1283.8I think that he needs professional helpVAXWRK::SKALTSISDebThu Apr 21 1988 13:424
    sounds like he has a drinking problem, too. The court should have
    ordered him to get some counseling for that, too.

1283.9Not the only cruelty note filePOOL::MURPHYIs it Friday yet?Mon Apr 25 1988 14:068
    .7 I think it's important that people who care about our fellow
        creatures know when one has suffered at the hands of an uncaring
        person. Life is full of horrible things. This incident is
        no different than many others I've read about in this and other
        notes files. I too felt terrible when I heard it on the radio
        mostly because I couldn't get my hands on the @##$# for what
        he'd done.

1283.10Do we really need to know??AIMHI::LLEBLANCThu May 12 1988 14:436
    I agree that it doesn't do any good to relay these types of messages
    to animal lovers. It's almost like straining your neck to see what
    has been smeared all over the road, or sharing stories about what
    happens to animals in lab research...
