                    Smokey Savors Court Victory

    Pittsburgh - Smokey, an 18-year-old cat who lives in a stationery
    store, feasted on fresh chicken livers yesterday to celebrate a
    unanimous court victory against a charge that he scratched a
    customer.
    
    Three arbitrators deliberated 20 minutes and ruled in favor of
    Smokey and the J.R. Weldin Co. stationery store.  They found the
    store not guilty of negligence in having the cat wander around
    the premises, its home for the past eight years, said Walter Lesniak,
    court clerk for the arbitration division of the Allegheny County
    Common Pleas Court.
    
    "It lets the store off, in other words," Lesniak said.  "They
    found in favor os Smokey."
    
    And Smokey promptly celebrated the victory.
    
    "Smokey enjoyed his lunch," Margaret Brown, store owner and manager
    said after the verdict was announced. "He had chicken livers - not
    canned , fresh."
    

    
    
    The only time I ever see a cat scratch someone is when they are
    **provoked**.
    
    GO SMOKEY!!!!

    Who was stupid enough to bring a prosecution over a cat scratch?
    
    Not only is it trivial/spiteful and probably they provoked the cat
    in the first place, but I can think of a lot better things to do
    with the money.
    
    Obviously a real dyed-in-the-wool cat hater,
    
    Good for Smokey, if he did scratch them it shows he's got taste.
