1260.0. "Pet Psychologists" by NACAD::LACOUR () Tue Apr 12 1988 11:33
While getting ready for work this morning, I was watching the Today
Show and there was a segment on about pet psychologists. They
interviewed a woman animal psychologist from NY and she went into
this line of work to basically save animals from destruction. She
felt that too many animals were being put to sleep because of
behavioral problems that could be changed, and basically blamed
these problems on not the animal, but the owner. She made a good
point stating that many people who get pets just don't spend the time
with them, and therefore the animal develops a problem. With cats,
she said not using the litter box is the most common. She will go
into the owners home, for instance, set up a video camera watching
the litter box and see the cat's behavior around the box before
and after it goes. Since I was getting ready for work (and was
late - this segment came on around 8:15), I didn't pay full attention
to it, but thought this woman deserved a lot of credit.

| Bless this woman. I think it is so sad too. This topic is also
discussed in note 964.*
