1241.0. "HELP!! Temporary home needed!" by INDIAN::BOND () Mon Apr 04 1988 20:06

    HELP!! I have a problem, my Himilayan Purball; I need to find
    a temporary home for her - about 3 months.

    Here's the story. My wife Laurie and I own 2 cats, Purball and
    Shadow. Purball is about 1-1/2 years old. In January, we moved
    in with Laurie's brother Arthur and wife Elaina's house, which we
    bought in March. They will be staying until June sometime.

    Elaina is very alergic to cats, as well as pregnant, which is why the
    cats couldn't move in with us. Shadow went to my brother's house,
    Purball to a friend's house. 3 months went by, no problem. Then, a
    week ago, Purball peed out of the box. She's done it 4 times so far,
    once on a shirt, but mostly on the floor. She wasn't scolded, as it
    was always much after the fact that they found out.

    I would guess the problem is one of 2 things:  1.) she's lonely;
    or 2.) she's in want of a mate.

    1.) Mike, my friend, says that on a good day, they might get 15
    minutes with the cat. She does like attention. She used to sleep
    with them, but when this started up, she isn't allowed anymore.
    Last weekend, they went away, which is when she started. She was
    alone for the entire weekend. I would guess lack of attention to
    be the primary reason for the problem.

    2.) She hasn't been spayed, as we want to breed her. But she's
    been this way for a year: she'll go in and out of heat, without
    much fuss. I really don't think this is the problem.

    This is really unfortunate. She's a wonderful cat. Very loving.
    Very friendly. Very pretty. (We are going to breed her because
    we think it would be a shame not to extend her line) She's just in
    need of a temporary home, 3 months or so until my brother- and
    sister-in-law move out. And from the looks of it, she'll need some
    attention, too.

    We're willing to make the following offer. If you can take her
    on for this time, and we feel you have an appropriate home (no unfixed
    males, please!), we are willing to give you a Himilayan kitten from her
    first litter. We will have papers on her by that time, so the kitten
    will also come with papers. She would be wonderful company for
    an elderly person, or for anyone, for that matter. We'll take care
    of all expenses; she's had all her shots.

    Please help us out if you can! Ideally, she needs a quick but
    temporary home. Otherwise, if you have any ideas as to why she might
    be taking up this new habit, please let us know.

    Thanks.   Peter & Laurie.

    Another possibility is that she has a urinary tract infection;
    often the first symptom of that is peeing outside the box. Has
    she been checked by a vet?

    I did a show on the keyword litterbox_problems and found the notes
    51, 91, 144, 256, 656, 963.

    Can't tell you for sure if I can help you out but might be able
    to. My mother is returning from Florida tomorrow for her summer
    stay in NH. She might be willing to take the cat for a few months.
    She loves animals but hasn't been able to have a cat because of
    going back to Florida in the winter. She has been known to take
    in dogs in for people who were going away, etc.

    If you would like, I would be happy to ask her and get back to you.
    Give me a call at 273-3406 if you would like to discuss this.

1241.3WHERE ARE YOUAIMHI::OFFENWed Apr 06 1988 16:4716
    Peter & Laurie,

    Where are you located and have you found a temporary home for Purball??

    I didn't understand one statement that you made.

    	She's been this way for a year -----

    What did you mean by that?? Not spayed or urinating out of the
    box??

    I would love to help if I could.

    Thank you all for your concern and help in this matter. My brother
    will be taking her on for a couple of months. He and his wife own
    the sister to Purball, and they dote much love and attention on
    their pets. So, she'll go there after she visits the vet (just
    to make sure she's healthy).

    Thanks again.
