1238.1 | GOOD LUCK! | CHEFS::TUDORK | | Wed Apr 06 1988 09:26 | 5 |
| There is nothing worse than seeing a good cat which deserves a loving
home down on his luck.
I wish you all the best, surely someone over there can appreciate
the more mature gentleman.

| Pat,
My friend Connie and have been trying to reach you by phone to find
out how Mr. Whiskers is doing. We almost had a home for him but
did not reach you in time. The prospective parents adopted another
kitty. Please let me know how his search for a home is doing.
I would love to adopt him, however, I live in a apartment and already
have two cats, a male and a female. I understand that two males
would not get along together otherwise I would take him in minute!!
Please keep me posted. My VAX account is NRADM::MARINO. My DTN
is 234-5440. My weak spot is CATS!!!!
Regards,
Arlene

1238.3 | Boys, boys, and more boys! | EDUC8::TRACHMAN | | Wed Apr 20 1988 13:13 | 11 |
| I think the idea of two males not getting along isn't always true.
I have 9 males and 5 females. My boys hang out together and
ignore the girls and the girls stick together! Weird, isn't it.
My boys make much better daddies than the girls - the girls
ignore all the new babies that I have brought inl over the
last 6 or 7 months, and the boys take right over! Even after
the baby boys are over a year, they still go back to their
"daddy" (Yurii-daddy or Nikolas-daddy) for baths and hugs!
It's cute to watch!

| Two boys: Toulumne the boy from next door thinks he is Khalife
the little boy from the otherside next door's daddy. So, two boys
not getting along is a myth.

1238.6 | Assuming they're neutered ... | VAXWRK::DUDLEY | | Wed Apr 20 1988 14:52 | 7 |
| Definitely a myth. My two males are good buddies. It's my
female cat that is the "odd-man-out".
So, if this is what has prevented you from getting a third
cat, you can now go ahead and DO IT! How 'bout Mr. Whiskers?

| I am on vacation this week - but only from WORK - not from the notes
files though (but I did just get back home today). I'm sorry I didn't
hook up with you in time for Mr. Whiskers. The good ole feller is
still at the shelter. I appreciate your thinking about him.
I have 7 cats - 4 females, 3 males and they do all get along but
they are all neutered. Maybe I am just lucky - and the other thing
is that there is enough room in the house (I live on the 1st floor
of a 2-family) for each one to have a space of his/her own- such
as a window or 2, a chair or couch, a heat register, etc. The
person who was Mr. W's foster mom really liked him but she was in an
apt w/three very small rooms and already had two cats of her own.
I think neutering/spaying/adequate space/temperment all enter into
the picture as to whether the cats will get along.
There is one thing about our shelter - if the cat doesn't work
out in the new home, we will take him/her back. We have had 3 cats
returned recently - 1 was because the woman who adopted him 2 years
ago was moving and couldn't take him with her; another because he
jumped on the kitchen countertop and the woman couldn't tolerate
that; and a third because he ate the family hampster (no, I don't
know how come they were together in the first place).
Anyway, my DTN is 282-1748 (westford); and vax acct is WJO::DALEY.
Thanks again for expressing concern about Mr. W. I will keep the
file updated on his quest to find a home. Also, even tho I am
not back at work until next Monday (25th) I will be on the Notes
Files from home (as well as into my mail account).

| I sure hope that Mr. Whiskers is doing ok. I just may have found
a home for him. I will know for sure this weekend. Pat, could
you send a message to me either via the notes file or my VAX account?
I would hate to line up a home for him only to find out that the
shelter has put him down. Just the thought of that is driving me
crazy.
My VAX account again is NRADM::MARINO
See ya,

| I checked on Mr. W - he was at the vet's for a few days because
he had been up-chucking. The only thing Dr. Nord could figure
out is that he was being feed too much food. Sometimes the
volunteers tend to overfeed and some cats will eat everything in
sight only to spit it up again afterwards. He is back at
the shelter as of Thursday. If you could find him a home - it would
be ever so great!!! He is such a mellow fellow - and I think he
would be a wonderful companion. Thanks for trying. I'll keep in
touch.

1238.14 | Mr. Whiskers Goes Home !!!! | NUGGET::CARIBO | | Fri Apr 29 1988 10:35 | 30 |
| Well... I don't think that anyone is getting senile guys. I did
mention in note 1311 (I think) that I was going to go and get Mr.
Whiskers last night, so I guess that covers everyone, Right?
I DID adopt him and he is a wonderful cat, very loving and affectionate
just like Pat said. I brought him and introduced him to the Girls
(Bunnie (Manx) and Roo (Domestic)) talk about an uneventful meeting!
They pretty much all took to each other immediately, they had supper
together and then Roo and Whiskers took up residence on the water
bed (there not dumb). This morning they all got up and had breakfest
and when I left Whiskers was sprawled out on the bed looking very
content. Roo seems to really enjoy his company, she has spent alot
of time alone, since Bunnie demands to go out in the morning. Whiskers
and Roo are the total Indoor cats of the family!
The Shelter is wonderful and has a HUGE selection of Cats/Kittens
that really need to be adopted... Isn't there any one else out
that can open there home to one more cat/kitten? I'm sure there
are folks out there that have the room and one more really isn't
anymore trouble. The Shelter is really easy to get to and the people
there are wonderful! Please consider adopting one of these loving
individuals, all you will get in return will be LOVE !
Just to let you know how I felt when I was there...
Sincerely,
Lorna

1238.17 | Glad for Mr. Whiskers | POOL::MURPHY | Is it Friday yet? | Mon May 02 1988 13:47 | 13 |
| So glad that Mr. Whiskers finally got a home. I was getting quite
concerned. I have 3 cats (2 boys & 1 girl) now and plan to move
in near future to a smaller apt. Everytime someone mentioned that
"they had 2 cats and were in a 3 rm. apt. so they couldn't adopt
another" was making me uneasy. We may be a little crowded but I
sure wouldn't part with one of my 3. They are all indoor kitties
and will remain so for their own safety. I was wondering though
about a possible "kittie kennel" built outside that they could enjoy
during nice days (under supervision of course), complete with kitty
gym for climbing? Do any of you use such a kennel or other enclosure
for your indoor cats?

1238.18 | LISTEN TO THIS!! | NUGGET::CARIBO | | Mon May 16 1988 13:30 | 34 |
| Just an update on my close personal friend, Mr. Whiskers. You won't
believe this!
This past weekend (Friday night, to 5:00 p.m. yesterday) we were
at a horse show. My mother took care of the kids for me. Apparently
Whiskers didn't find this amusing at all, my others Bunnie & Roo
are used to it.
Well, when we got home last night Bunnie and Roo greeted us in the
kitchen and Whiskers had to be called. He came to me limping and
looking very sad and put out. I immediately checked his paws and
found nothing wrong! I pressed around his shoulders and body to
find out if there were any sore spots to try and locate what was
the matter. The only response I received from Whiskers was purrs
and kisses, no pulling away or crying. I was stumped!
It was feeding time so I feed everyone and they all ate like normal,
including my friend Whiskers. After dinner we sat in the living
room to relax after a very hectic weekend, and we heard this thundering
herd coming down the hallway, and who do you think was chasing my
old cat down the hall?! With not a limp in stride! This morning
was the same way, he is so happy that we are home.
Has this kind of thing happen to anyone else out there?? This is
the first time for me. I guess he just loves his new family and
thought that we had left him for good and when he saw us home he
just wanted extra attention.
Just thought I would share this story with you all... I was sure
relieved when he wasn't limping and was tearing around the house
like a wild man.

| re: .18
Oh yes, I've had the "I'm hurt - give me extra loving" game played by
any one of the four I live with. It's especially effective if the
normal schedule gets warped by other events..then I can bet someone
with come down with a sore paw or a droopy tail until the appropriate
attention is administered....the "cat dancer" toy I have is the best
way to test for real injuries. If the cat will play with the toy
and dance around alot, I know all that is needed is some special hugs.

| Who would have guessed that when you brought Whiskers home, he
would become so attached to you!! However, he did seem to be a cat
with special qualities one of which was intelligence. Also, he seemed
to desperately want a family. When he was in the shelter
he started to look quite forlorn. I did not enter it into the files but I
was beginning to worry about him because he looked so sad. (Most cats
there look like they are having fun - playing with the other cats
and with their toys.) What a difference between the shelter days and now.
No wonder he was upset - he probably thought he had lost his family.
Of course he'll get used to your routine. Besides he has Roo and
Bunnie, his own private harem.
His eyes are like my Francis' eyes, and that's one reason I was so
taken by Whiskers. Francis is extremely affectionate and attached to
me, too. - sits with me when I read, or watch the television, watches
me from the livingroom window when I am working in the front yard.
Francis has leukemia (but he is 17 pounds and looking good so far-
knock on wood!!) however, his personality is extremely wonderful and he
so charmed me from the time he came out of an old abandoned house over
a year ago, that I chose to keep him. I often remark - to Francis
that is - that I feel very lucky to have found him.
Thanks Lorna for giving Whiskers a great home. He is a very lucky
boy.

1238.21 | Whiskers... | NUGGET::CARIBO | | Mon May 23 1988 14:26 | 28 |
| Pat,
It is I that should thank you ! What a personality.
This morning when I woke up he was laying on the window sill
looking out at the birds. As soon as he saw that I was awake he
came over to ask for breakfest. Always thinking of his stomach
but he isn't greedy anymore. He only eats his food and doesn't
steal the girls food, I tend to think that he got his lesson the
night that he came home. The girls know the spots for dinner and
they tend to get their message across.
Whiskers is starting to get attached to my husband Mike also.
He can pick him up and carry him around, and Whiskers just purrs
and rubs his head on Mike's arm. If Mike is laying on the couch
Whiskers is sure to find him and make himself VERY comfortable.
To make a very long story short, we both love that cat as we
do all of our cats, but Whiskers seems to really appreciate the
love and care that we give him, where the girls tend to take it
for granted, they've always had a warm home with lots of love and
food.
Thanks again to Pat for putting some extra love into our home!
Lorna
