1194.0. "Bigfoot Needs a Home" by GEMVAX::RICHTER () Thu Mar 17 1988 09:10

I am sad to report that last week another kitty was abandoned in my
    neighborhood. Before I take it to a shelter, I would like to try
    to find a home for it. This kitty was probably a house cat and is
    very affectionate. At first I thought it was a female, but now that
    I have been able to get closer, I can see it is an altered male.

    My neighbor who is also feeding him has dubbed him bigfoot because
    of his paws. His front paws have extra "thumbs"; his back paws
    a double. His feet are white, as are his tummy and bib and the
    area around his nose. Otherwise he is a grey tiger.

    I would take him in myself because he is such a nice cat, but I
    already have two and they are all I can manage.

    Please help.

1194.1a good-luck catPBA::DALEYThu Mar 17 1988 09:2512
    I unfortunately can't take Bigfoot into my home either as I
    have reached my limit -

               But Keep In Mind That :

    - a double-paw'd cat is supposed to bring good luck into his household
    so Bigfoot sounds like he'll bring LOTS OF GOOD LUCK into your home
    with all his extra toes. Sounds like a good deal to me (and since
    he's already altered so you'd be spared the cost of neutering -
    that's the first piece of good luck already!).

1194.2Now let's count ...MRESS::MIDTMOENAndrea and the GangThu Mar 17 1988 09:5014
         My Bigfoot is curious as to how many toes your Bigfoot has.
    Mine has five toes in back (normal cats have four) and seven (yes,
    seven!) in front (normal cats have five).

         I asked my vet about Bigfoot and she said that there seems
    to be an overabundance of double-pawed cats in the New England area.
    It seems that sailors felt that double-pawed cats were good luck,
    so they encouraged the mutation as much as possible! Most double-
    pawed cats only have six toes, so she said Bigfoot was extra special
    with seven. Boy did that make his day!

    Don't "normal cats" have 5 on front and 4 in back? Mine do.

    I'll count tonight just as soon as I get home and let you know tomorrow
    how many toes he has (front and back). Good news too. A fellow
    is coming tomorrow evening to "check him out." This notes file is
    wonderful. While no prospective parties contacted me, I found a
    possibility and contacted him. I am very hopeful they will take
    to one another.

1194.5Toe Count on BigfootGEMVAX::RICHTERFri Mar 18 1988 10:199
    Bigfoot has an extra "thumb" on his front paws with a hidden claw
    between the thumb and the regular claws. His back paws have one
    extra toe also. So he has 6 toes and 7 claws up front, and 5 toes
    and claws in the back. Those back feet sure look a lot bigger though.

    Unfortunately, my prospect cancelled, but I've heard from another
    person, so I remain hopeful.

1194.6Any word?MRESS::MIDTMOENAndrea and the GangFri Mar 25 1988 13:568
         What an unusual arrangement. Perhaps that is extra lucky?!

         Did you ever get another prospect for Bigfoot? I'd take him
    but we've reached our limit with three cats. Besides, one can't
    have more than one Bigfoot per household!

         Seriously, though, how's it going for Bigfoot? Here's hoping
    ... !
