| I don't want to upset anyone, but surely the point of animals is
that they are .. animals?
I love my cats because they are cats, not dolls, or toys, and because
they have minds and independent lives of their own. I try to respect
their "cat-ness", for want of a better word, and I wouldn't dream
of "dressing them up".
What does anyone else think?
Helen.

1161.4 | Mine Love Dress Up | DPDMAI::BALL | I AM standing up! | Thu Mar 03 1988 13:32 | 22 |
| re .3
Sure they're animals, but not wild animals. We've done so much
in the way of domesticating them by keeping them indoors, teaching them
to use "bathroom facilities" indoors, teaching them right and wrong
just like kids, why not dress them up? The clothes that they have
are made specifically for animals so they aren't restricted in anyway
of movement or breathing or anything harmful. They seem to love
it! When I put Corkie's stuff on her, she prances around as if
to say "look at me!" Then proceeds to place herself in the middle
of things and lay there with her front paws crossed and her head
high. They know it's special treatment and I think that as long
as you aren't doing something they object to, and believe me, if
they objected I wouldn't have any skin left on my arms. Sorry,
I treat my animals better than some people do their kids. In a sense,
they are my kids. I respect their "Cat-ness" and "dog-ness" and
I don't think it takes away from that to have a little fun with
them.
Pat
(You didn't upset me, just my opinions.)

| I don't see any reason to dress up my cats, but I can easily believe
that dogs who go outside in the cold could use sweaters. (Is there
a danger of this stuff getting caught on things and so on...?)
Sweetie (he asked me to make clear that he is NOT a dog) likes
to nap under the blankets on chilly days. He stands at the blanket
edge and looks at it and then at me until I lift it up so he can
settle down underneath.

1161.6 | no clothes, but... | URBAN::JOHNSTON | I _earned_ that touch of grey! | Thu Mar 03 1988 14:11 | 13 |
| ...Maggie has her own sleeping bag. She HATES pet beds -- at least
standard ones. She LOVES bags of any sort. I had made a bunting
as a baby gift and when I went to wrap it, she had coated the inside
with long, orange, silky hairs [while it was in the top of the linen
closet]. Rather than try to clean it, I just made another and let
Maggie keep hers.
I have tried on several occasions to get a straight answer to why
a 'full grown woman-cat of taste and sophistication' -- as she is
fond of portraying herself -- wants a bed with pink & blue & yellow
ducks & bunnies on it; but she won't say...

chilly days in California?! Gasp!! :-)
I have no desire to dress up my cats maybe because I have no desire
to dress up little children. I'm sure my cats thank me for this.

| I think it would be kinda fun. I would love to see the
expression on my kitty kats faces if I put a little
bandana on them or a tee shirt. I'm sure Dazdee and
Whicket would both love a Spuds Mackenzie tee shirt :^>
(OK, so would the mom :^>)
