1155.0. "Cat Magazines - Where to Find?" by FSHQOA::RWAXMAN () Tue Mar 01 1988 16:32

I have been looking all over the magazine counters at various stores
for Cats or Cat Fancy Magazine.

Any ideas on where I can find these magazines, or do I have to
    subscribe?

    Thanks,
    Roberta

Here's the subscription info for Cat Fancy, a copy of which, for
some reason, was in my office:

$17.97 for 12 issues. CAT FANCY magazine, Subscription Dept., P.O.
    Box 52864, Boulder, CO. 80322-2864

When I renewed my Cat Fancy at the last cat show, I got a
coupon for a discounted rate to pass on to someone else.
I'll try to find it tonight and send it to you. They
usually have Cat Fancy at the Paper Store in Maynard, but
I've never seen Cats magazine in any store.

You can find CAT FANCY at almost any medium sized magizine rack
(my local CVS carries it). The only news stands I've seen CATS
at has been the real large ones like the ones in Harvard Square,
and a newstand in Kenmore square.

These magazines are usually in your local vet's office, and usually
have coupons that you can pull out and mail in (that's where I got
    the subscription coupon for Cats)

I've seen subscrition cards for Cats magazine in those card racks
that supermarkets set up as obstacles by their entrances. I've
also seen cards for Dog Fancy, but not for Cat Fancy, which suprises
me, since I believe their published by the same people.

All these magazines tend to be limited audience, and their only
monthlies. Unlike Time and Newsweek, or even computer magazines,
bookstores will only order a limited number of these. They'd rather
be sold out than overstocked. Once they're sold out, that it until
the next month's issue arrives. I believe that explains why they're
harder to find. If you don't see the magazine you want on the shelf,
ask the clerk or manager whether they carry it at all. Chances
are they'll be able to tell you when the next issue is due in.

Of course, many people find subscribing to be more convenient.
Now if only Cat Fancy were available through one of those "Win a
million dollars and buy some magazines" promotions; they frequently
have cheaper rates than a direct subscription.

I've been to a couple of cat shows where they've done this, and
at least one time it was Cat Fancy. It was a subscribe and maybe
you'll win 100 lbs of Iams. I was already a subscriber, but I later
found out that I could enter and just renew my subscription (at
    a cheaper price).

All in all, Cats and Cat Fancy are fairly inexpensive to subscribe
    to.

I got my copy of the Catmopolitan at the Paper Store downtown Maynard.

I think I paid $9.98 for it...pretty steep price, but I think they
only put it out twice a year.

I ordered a print pad for Asia. It is a kitty paw with your baby's
name underneath it. I think it was $7.95 - without the ink.

    re: "SHOW" subscription rates

The regular subscription rate for Cat Fancy is $17.97 for ONE YEAR.

I just renewed my subscription through one of the exhibitors
at the Copley Cat Show. The rate was $18.00 for TWO YEARS.
A good deal. He gave me coupon so that I could pass it on
to someone else, but I can't seem to find it.
