When you've been sitting up in bed reading, and a furry friend of
yours is sprawled across your legs very comfortably snoring away,
and it's time to turn out the light and get some shut-eye yourself...
Now what to do?
I think that cat-lovers are also prime contenders for "Body-Contor-
tionists International".

the little one so that he or she takes off _fast_, leaving claw

I sleep in an "S" shape because Sebastion sleeps next to me up by my
head on the edge of the bed, and Claude sleeps behind my knees.
curled up, so she's right between my husband and me. It is agony
waking up at 2:00 in the morning because "nature is calling." The
silliest part is when I decide that there is no way I can go back
to sleep, so I begin to extract myself ever so slowly up through
the opening in the top, over the pillow, so I can climb over Sebastion
and sneak to the bathroom. The worst thing is when I get to the
bathroom, after having successfully completed this maneuver, and
both of them have followed me to keep me company. "Hi mom, want
some company?"
Of course, if I succeed in not waking them up, it is yet another
challenge to slither back into my little "S" space by sitting on
the pillow and climbing back in... ever so slowly. By this time,
the alarm rings.
The things we do for cats...

| Right after we have all settled in for some tube watching (or more often,
reading) after dinner...Nicholas on my lap, Hannah on the chair next to
the couch..THEN Brandy, the dobie, decides she "has" to go out. She
walks over and nudges Nick in the tummy, which causes him to protest and
swat her nose, which causes her to back up and sit her fanny down on
Hannah's chair....Hannah, of course, swats her fanny and yells and
stomps out to find Tabitha for a game of chase....Ah well, it was nice
and peaceful while it lasted!

| Boy, does this all sound familiar!
And does everyone else feel as silly as I do when, after having
laboriously extracted myself from under and/or between cats, *just*
as I'm about to get out without disturbing them, one of them bounces
up and leaps off the bed in high dudgeon... Heck, if she was going
to be disturbed, she might as well have done it before I had to
play Untie the Pretzel!

| When nature calls early in the a.m. and Schnitzel has taken her
usual half of the bed in the middle and I try gingerly to get out
of bed without disturbing "herself", she picks up her head, opens
one eye, looks at me as if to say "where do you think you're going
at this time of night and did you really need to turn the light
on!" I always end up appologizing to her......

| This is something that happened to me last night and has happened
a few times before.
Tabby is curled up right by my shoulder and Silver is curled up
between my legs. I have already gingerly slithered myself out
of my position when nature called at around 1:00. Of course, when
I got back to bed both of them are awake and looking at me as if
to say, "And where did YOU go?" Then at about 3:00 I wake up and
have a terrible cramp im my calf. I jump up and get the cramp to
go away and of course both wake up and look at me as if to say,
"Will you PLEASE sit still so that we can get some SLEEP?"

| I don't seem to have this problem - you see my cat is a zonker.
When she is sleeping on my lap when the phone rings, I pick her
up and run for the phone. I don't think she really wakes up because
by the time I reach the phone she is asleep in my arms. When I
place her back in my lap when I go back to settle down - she sort
of opens one eye and says "What happened? Huh?" and then continues
to sleep.
I'm glad I don't have more than one cat though - that would make
things too difficult.
Suzanne (mom of the zonked cat)

| I don't have a problem getting out of bed around Trouble, the problem
is when I get back. She has moved. To the very center of my pillow
curled up and looks so cute, what am I to do? Shove her over of
course :-) . She really doesn't mind, but it does make me feel
guilty.
