| Try checking out the various behavior modification
techniques mentioned throughout this conference.
I don't have curtains anymore. All my windows have
pleated shades or vertical blinds on them.

1091.2 | kittens aren't stupid | INK::KALLIS | Just everybody please calm down... | Wed Feb 03 1988 14:14 | 21 |
| I have a sure-fire solution, but it'll take patience on your part.
It's worked with _every_ one of my cats who's had a penchant for
curtain climbing.
Remove the curtains from their hooks. Then drape them on the rods.
When the kitten(s) attempts to climb, the extra weight (if you've
_carefully_ balanced the curtains) will cause the curtain to fall
on kitty. Shouldn't hurt them. Kitten tries again, same result.
Do this for a week or two, and the kittens shouuld have decided
that attempting to Climb Curtains isn't a good idea.
Since your kittens already have some experience with
curtain-clambering, it might take a bit longer.
When it's a fixed part of their routine _not_ to climb curtains,
you can reattach them to the roda.
Naturally, the patience involves putting the stupid things back
each time a kitten's pulled one down.

1091.3 | If kitty likes to climb, provide a curtain alternaive | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Thu Feb 04 1988 15:25 | 5 |
| Pip climbed curtains (and my Norfork pine) until I decided to get
her a cat tree. She has been a perfect angel since the arrivel of
the Deluxe Kitty Plaground II.

1091.4 | Another curtain technique | CLUSTA::TAMIR | To a cat, all things belong to cats | Fri Feb 05 1988 10:11 | 9 |
| Honey nearly drove me nuts climbing the curtains. I used something
similar to the technique in .2, but I used tension rods to hold
up the curtains. Whenever my monster would try to climb, the curtains
and the rod would come down. I'd just merrily put it back and wait
for his next attempt. It stopped real quick. But, like .3, my
guys now have a 5 foot tall kitty tree to climb and that seems to
keep them happy.

1091.5 | Keep Claws Clipped | SNOWY::ARMES | | Sat Feb 06 1988 08:23 | 5 |
| It may be too late.... but keep their claws clipped. I clip kitty's
claws as soon as kitty comes home and keep them clipped for the
first year and a half. They never seem to learn that they can climb
your leg, curtains, walls etc. It has worked for me with the three
kittens/cats that I have been owned by.
