| Thanks for the help! DIR/TITLE=... wasn't getting me anywhere.
I found some very positive information and advice that I will pass
on this evening when I call to check on how the biopsy went.
I only found this file recently and have already learned alot.
It's nice to know that there are other people out there as crazy
about their cats as I am.

| It turns out it is bone cancer that has done extensive damage to
the leg. X-rays showed a huge mass. A second opinion was obtained
from a truly exceptional vet (specializes in surgery and seems to
know the latest on everything.) The second opinion was the same
as the first. Both vets were great in explaining exactly what was
going on and expressed high hopes for Miss Kitty being able to lead
a "normal" life.
I passed on the stories of Jake and other three-legged cats from
this conference. My friend and I have had some deep discussions
on the quality of life, (thanks again to you noters who can express
such ideas so well).
To the point, Miss Kitty is having her back leg amputated today.
She is expected to come home tomorrow, if all goes well. We're saying
our prayers.

| While my 3-legged wonder didn't have cancer (I found him dragging
a leg across the yard at the office where I worked while living
on Guam). Tigger was just a kitten, nearly starved - vet said some
warped person had kicked or hit him and destroyed the radial nerve
and one front leg was permanently "dead" - no control/no feeling.
Vet felt he was too starved to make it but he grew, and grew. When
he reached 'that' age we took him to have him neutered and requested
that they also amputate his leg - it just flopped and when he ran
sometimes another foot would step on it and he would fall. Tigger
was missing a front, rather than back, leg but although he looked
like a rabbit when he walked/hopped, you'd never know it was missing
when he ran. He climbed the cat pole, played with my other cats,
purred, cuddled - in every other way a normal kitty. I sure hope
everything works out for your friend - three legs shouldn't be bad,
I just hope there hasn't been any spreading of the cancer. Giver
her our best.

| Just to let you know...
I checked with Miss Kitty's Mom yesterday to see how everything
was going. Miss Kitty made it through the surgery with flying colors.
She was a bit disoriented when she came home on Saturday, but once
she got going, she hasn't stopped. She jumped up on the bed with
no problems and seems to already have adjusted to three-legs. She
has spent her time crying at the window to go out. (She has a nice
privacy-fenced yard that she gets to investigate occasionally,
but can't get over the fence). She will stay indoors for a while
to have a chance to heal. She's doing great! Aren't cats amazing!
