I don't know about boarding facilities, but let me point you at a
great local vet: Dr. Brent Walker at the Altos Animal Hospital,
First Street, Los Altos. There are also emergency clinics that
are open after normal vet hours; one is the South Peninsula Veterinary
Emergency Clinic on Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. You may wind
up closer to the one in San Jose; I don't have their address at
hand. I _think_ the Adobe Animal Hospital in Los Altos has emergency
hours too, but I'm not sure. Call first before you take your puss
to any of the emergency clinics, to be sure they're open, of course.
Actually, come to think of it, I did board Holly for a short time
when I first adopted her, at Adobe. She had something infectious,
and I was trying to get it cured before I brought her home to Sweetie.
So, dunno if this is a good place for healthy cats or not. They
did have her in an isolated room, away from the other cats.

| We've boarded our cats at a kennel in Sunol called Happiness Kennels.
Sunol is about 20 minutes/ half hour north of Santa Clara. I checked
several places in the immediate vicinity of Santa Clara and didn't
find a kennel I was comfortable with. We live in the next town
over from Sunol (Fremont), so it's actually closer for us.
I highly recommend the kennel. They board cats, dogs, horses, etc.
The cattery is separate from the dog runs. The cattery has an enclosed
area along the outside perimeter and the cages radiate out from
the inside. The cages are very tall, maybe 6 feet. They are also
long (not sure how long) and wide. There's quite a bit of room.
They look like miniature dog runs. Each cage has shelves and/or
tree limbs for the cats to climb and sit on.
The kennel requires that the kittie's shots be up to date, including
FeLV. They will provide food (Nine lives I think) or you can bring
in your own food. Special feeding arrangements can be made. The
cattery has always looked very clean to me (clean litter boxes,
no smell, lots of fresh water). Plus, the workers spend time handing
out pats and cuddles.
I also remember signing some sort of release form so that they could
bring the kitties to my vet if the need arose. There was a mileage
charge and of course I would be responsible for the vet bill.
Our 2 cats always stay together in one cage. I can't remember if
there's a discount for this or not, but our two are happier this way.
I know there is a discount on a week's stay or longer. It's been a year
since I've used them, so I'm not going to quote a rate, but they
were comparable to other kennels in the area.
Here's the phone number if you'd like to give them a call: (415)657-7753.
Good luck with your move.

| Hi....
Don't know where you'll be staying in this relocation of yours,
but if you plant yourself near Los Gatos (just a few miles west
of Santa Clara) there are at least a couple of places that board
cats in Los Gatos. They are:
Johnson Veterinary Hospital 524 N. Santa Cruz Ave. (408)354-9530.
Summit Veterinary Clinic/Kennels 666 University Ave. (408)395-7975.
Los Gatos is, after all, an appropriate place for felines - Los
Gatos means "The Cats". There are likely other boarding facilities
throughout the South Bay, you might want to call around and compare
rates. If you need information assistance specifically in Santa
Clara, you can call the Chamber of Commerce at (408)296-6863 and
they can help you find what you need.
Good luck and welcome to the West. Marvin
