977.0. "My New Kitty! And Questions!" by VICKI::COCHRANE (Send lawyers, guns and money.) Mon Dec 21 1987 10:15

Introducing - Niniane!! My very own 9 week old Blue point Siamese
baby! She arrived via pet taxi from Spencer, MA on Saturday. We are
very glad to have her as we're both animal lovers and have spent 3
years without pets due to apartment regulations! But now we have our
own condo and a kitty to love as well!!

A couple of questions I have though, if someone could help me.

1.) She's been crying for a while now, looking for Mom I'm sure.
How long should this go on before I should become concerned?
We're giving her lots of affection and attention and she purrs
away, but still mews. She's eating well and her litter is good.
I assume she's healthy, but wouldn't want to overlook somthing
just because I think she's lonely.

2.) Does anyone know of or have a list of plants that are poisonous
to cats? My husband and I have quite a few houseplants and I
want to know which ones to get rid of. The extension service is
sending me some literature, but it probably won't get here this
week, and I want to know pronto if I have anything that could
     hurt Ninny.

3.) Can anyone recommend a good vet in the Plaistow, NH area? She
hasn't had any shots and I would like to take her in fairly soon
     and get her checked out.

Thanks for any help you can give us.

Mary-Michael and Niniane

I had the same Problem with Tabbatha crying all of the time. Believe
me, it gets better. She just misses her mommy. After she adopts
you as her new mommy, she'll stop. Be careful, though. She may
adopt your husband as her new mommy. :-)

    Re: constant 'crying'

We have one Siamese who never shuts up, and one who never says a
    word (unless she's hungry).

It's the nature of the beast!

977.4Thanks for the information!VICKI::COCHRANESend lawyers, guns and money.Mon Dec 21 1987 10:4919
Thanks for all the information. I have the plant lists and we'll
    start "weeding" tonight.

Yesterday Niniane showed a preferance for my husband. By evening,
she was following me around everywhere. Fickle little lady!!

I had another Siamese for 19 years before she died at my parents
house last summer. A good amount of "conversation" is normal.
She's just constantly crying right now. I believe in a couple more
days it'll drop off a bit. She's become more active (the little
terror!) and more affectionate the longer she's been around (although
she'll probably be mad that we left her alone in the cellar all
day ;-) with all the interesting toys the pet store could provide
us with!) Her favorite thing right now - the furry lined hood
off of one of my jackets! She sleeps in the hood and plays with
the ties! Sigh, just like children. You buy them all the toys
in the world and they play with the pots and pans!!

Eugene Handel, D.V.M. - Veterinary House Calls of Londonderry -
is a very caring vet who makes house calls and charges very reasonable
fees. He is limiting his practice to evenings and the towns
"surrounding" Londonderry for now. His number is 603 - 432-1404.
He also sends Christmas cards to his patients.

I also have one very vocal Siamese and one who is very quiet. The
interesting thing is that I was advised to get a second Siamese
as I was told that they are happier with company. The addition
of the second did quiet the first immensely -however, he still is
a loudmouth and definitely the BOSS!

My vet in Plaistow is Dr. Wallace of the Plaistow Animal Medical
Center. I've been going there since forever and am always pleased
with the gentle caring way they treat my animals. They are on the
little street which runs paralell with Rte. 125 right across from
Demoulas/bradlees. It's the little white house. The name of the
street is Old Danville Rd. phone - 382-8519.
