976.1 | He needs a real home | VIDEO::USHER | | Fri Dec 18 1987 16:03 | 10 |
| I can't think of ANYTHING that sickens me more than than hearing
stories about people like that. I say if this animal is being treated
or should I say abused than by all means take him and find him a
home. He sounds like a nice cat, and I wish I knew someone who
would take him. Some people would say "You have no right to just
take an animal from it's owner", but in my book these people have
no rights.... I could go on and on but I'll only get madder and
madder.

976.3 | Same Situation... | ITSBIG::VACCARI | | Mon Dec 21 1987 13:34 | 29 |
| Kim,
Don't feel so bad, I also have a similar situation where I live,
so I know how you feel. The people next door to me have a cute
orange and white kitten, about 5 months old too. It is constantly at my
door trying to sneak into my condo, once in a while I'll let it in,
give him some food and then regretfully put him back out.
Occassionally, they'll let him in, so I'm kinda hestitant about taking
him and finding him a real home. They should be moving in a month,
so at that time I'll take the kitten temporarily (I have two already)
and then try to place him in a foster home. (I know they'll be leaving
him behind, thats the way these people think).
He is also starving for affection, so whenever I see him, I give
him a pat and hold him. I am also extremely mad at the way these people
treat this animal. They are the most ignorant people I have ever run
into. I cannot understand how anyone could be mean or mistreat
an animal. It really makes me sick to see how some animals are
treated by their owners and yet, alot of these cruel people have
more than just one pet.
I only wish that there were more people out there like the ones
that write in this notes file. It sometimes makes me feel alot
better knowing that the people here are out there making a difference
for some of the animals.
Good luck with the kitten at your place.

976.4 | I AGREE.... | AIMHI::OFFEN | | Mon Dec 21 1987 13:56 | 21 |
| RE: #976.1
I agree wholeheartedly..
I have already put my two cents in on these types of COLD-HEARTED
people.
Yes, Kim, take the kitten and let it have a chance for a normal,
happy life which all animals deserve.
I would gladly take it (as I would love to take all abandoned animals)
but I just can't. I am already over my quota for now. I also have
an older dog that is starting to have some medical problems so I
wouldn't be able to devote more attention to a young, playful, adorable
baby at this time.
Kim, let us know what happens. It is so cold out there.

976.5 | UPDATE | TPVAX3::ROBBINS | | Mon Dec 21 1987 14:01 | 27 |
|
Well an update::
Unfortunately I think my husband saying something to her did more
harm then good.... I was on the look-out all week-end but needless
to say with being a last minute christmas shopper we won't home
that much. On coming home Sunday night what do I notice? The window
is open again!!!! I'm sure the landlord would appreciate this as
he pays for the heat..... So I guess the kitten is back to be their
pet.... Either Jason saying something scared her into thinking
we were observing all this and she was afraid that we'd do something
against them so opened back up the window.... or maybe just maybe
someone else had took kitty in and now that he's back outside she
noticed him or happened to see or hear him.... I don't know which
I prefer to think that she was being truthful and just didn't realize
kitty was out there. You'd think that someone who had lost their
little kitten would think twice when she got him back and maybe
make him an indoor kitty besides the fact of leaving the bedroom
window open in the dead of winter.... I don't know what makes some
people tick...We'll be moving out of there at the end of the month
and the only thing I dread is not to be able to watch over the little
kitty.... I still would like to take the kitten away but.....
Now I don't know as maybe she was being truthful when she said he
had got lost.... I'll have to think about this one as I'm not crazy
about the environment the kitten as to live with......

976.6 | Help for cat *and* owners | CIVIC::WINBERG | | Mon Dec 21 1987 14:56 | 4 |
| Had you considered talking to the cat's owners about your concerns
for the cat's welfare . . . out of compassion for both the cat *and*
the people? Who knows, they might appreciate your taking the cat
off their hands. It's certainly better than stealing.

976.7 | Rescue not Steal | SQM::MURPHY | Is it Friday yet? | Tue Dec 22 1987 13:13 | 12 |
| In the cases of both kittens (orange/white and grey/white) I think
their welfare comes first and it doesn't seem to matter to their
present owners how they are cared for. I like to think the word
is "rescue" not "steal" in cases like these.
I also think if someone knows the name and address of people who
abandon/abuse animals, they should report it to the SPCA.
Just my opinion is all. :-(

976.8 | Yup, consider it a rescue | CLUSTA::TAMIR | To a cat, all things belong to cats | Tue Dec 22 1987 15:56 | 12 |
| Well, I guess I'd just take the cat and pack him with everything
else I treasure and move him! I agree it's a rescue, not a theft.
Besides, they won't even notice! Or, you could try something like
"Gee, neighbor, we've grown so fond of your little kitten, but we're
moving away. Do you think you could find it in your heart to give
us your little one?? We promise to love, honor, and obey....blah,
blah,....". It might work...
Nah, forget that approach, they don't have a heart to find anything
in! Rescue him and the heck with the jerks!!

976.9 | MOVING DAY | AIMHI::OFFEN | | Wed Dec 23 1987 13:48 | 8 |
| Just let him crawl into an empty box, well there could be a blanket
in it, sort of close the box, without realizing the kitten was in
it of course, and just move. Once you get the kitten to its new
home, you just don't have the heart to turn it back out into the
COLD, CRUEL WORLD.

976.10 | TAKE THE KITTY!!!!!! | FSHQOA::RWAXMAN | | Thu Dec 24 1987 09:39 | 17 |
| My parents neighbors had a cat which they NEVER took care of. My
parents had four cats and one of them "adopted" the neighbors kitty.
Once my mom saw him, she started caring for it; brought it to the
vets for shots regularly, got him fixed, groomed, etc. When the
neighbors were finally in the process of moving, my mom hid Fluffy
in her house until they were gone. Now I do not consider this stealing
at all, as it was in the best interest of Fluffy, and after all,
Mom did pay for all of his vet care and food.
Please, Kim, take the kitty with you. These so called people do
not deserve to have pets. If they were moving, they would most
likely abandon him anyway. This kitten needs someone like you,
and believe me, you'll feel much better for it afterward.
Please keep us posted...

976.11 | I Agree | PHILEM::WOODS | | Mon Dec 28 1987 12:52 | 25 |
| Kim,
I agree with everyone else. Save the little kitty. My husband
and I have done this twice (no regrets). Last October/November
some people that lived nearby had two cats (one orange, and one
black). Well they had to move (evicted, nonpayment, dirty etc.)
they obviously left the cats. The orange cat was very friendly
found out his name was Gismo not sure of the Black ones. Gismo
would sit outside our window in my husbands truck and meow on and
on. It drove me crazy. I wanted to do something for him and at
the same time was very mad that the people left them (but, knowing
who and what they were was not surprised). We started feeding him
in the back of the truck but he wanted in. We have an indoor kitty
(her name is Obi) and we were not sure about putting them together.
So my husband asked his parents if they wanted another cat (Obi's
father had just passed on and we were not sure if they wanted
a new kitty so soon). Luckly they said yes. The black kitty
was not easy. I was not very keen on people (not easy to catch)
but we did and found him a home. I say either find the kitty
a home or take it in yourself and give it your love.
Good luck,
Kimberley

976.12 | INDOOR KITTY | TPVAX3::ROBBINS | | Mon Jan 04 1988 13:32 | 15 |

Well I must admit I had every intention of very nonchalantly "stealing"
kitty but guess what...... Someone has decided that they want to
make the kitty an indoor cat. I know he's in there and the window
never opens now at all. I think they may have heard me speaking
very loudly to my husband about how pissed off I was etc..... and
decided he'd stay in... I'm kind of glad and kind of not.....
They seem to have quited down a bit as far as fighting but... At
least I know he's not out in the cold wanting to come in...
Oh well just goes to show there's just so much you can do. Thanks
everyone for the interest and concern.......
