My wife and I have a two year old tiger we picked up as a stray. He was about 6 months old then. We took him to the vets, got him all his shots, and had him neutered. His name is Tigger and he's been a delight from day one. Although he has a little bit of "loner" in him, he's always been very playful and affectionate. When he needs his space, he needs his space, no what I mean????? Anyway, about 8 weeks ago, we took home an 8 week old tortoise shell from the vet. Her name is Gizmo. The speed with which Tigger accepted Gizmo was astounding. Within 3 hours, he was actually grooming her. After the first day, he had completely taken over the mothering duties for this kitten. Now, their just the most adorable pair. There so cute. So, here's the question. Tigger won't play anymore. I'm sure he isn't depressed. He's normal in every other way. There have been absolutely no other behavioral problems from taking in the new child. He just won't play anymore. They play together, ofcourse, but he won't play chase the string, or chase dad, or hide and seek anymore. Let me try and explain it this way. By watching Tigger and trying to figure out if anything is wrong, if he could talk, this is what I'd expect to hear...... Now dad, I'm not a kid anymore. I have responsibilities now and I have to watch over Gizmo. It's not that I don't want too, It's just that I have more important things to do. Anyone have any thoughts on this?????? Steve

Maybe Tigger used to sleep all day while you were at work, and play when you came home. Maybe now he and Gizmo play all day and he's tired at night.

You may find that Tigger will be more playfull as soon as Gizmo is a little older and more independent. Marion

The responsibility reason may be the one. With each kitten I brought in, Yurii decided to become instant Yurii-Daddy. He takes his job very seriously and for most of the summer and fall was very busy teaching, cleaning, etc. Ivan, Lara, Miyagi, SilVee, Katenka, and Pasha, playing very little. The past 2 - 3 weeks, he started jumping on my dresser whenever I was standing there brushing my hair - he now sits on his hind legs like a bunny (he is all white with a pink nose and pale blue eyes, 13 pounds - big bunny!) and tries to grab the brush, pushes the comb on to the floor, etc. He chatters and runs like old times! Have patience - the kitties know best - as long as you are confident that Tigger is healthy, worry not - as the previous reply mentioned, when Gizmo grows Tigger will feel like his old self.
