| You could look through the classified section in you local newspaper(s)
as well as the Want Advertiser, Bargain Hunter's guide, etc. In
addition, some animal hospitals or shelters may have kittens available,
or know where you could check. From your DTN, I assume you work
in TWO? There is the Andover Animal Hospital (on Rt. 133) and
Bulger Animal Hospital (682-9905) that are not too far from TWO.
Good luck finding something in time.

| Lot's of animals are given as gifts on Christmas Day. Sadly, many of
them are returned the day after, or abandoned. A new pet, especially
a young kitten or puppy, requires both personal attention when awake
and peace and quiet when asleep. Christmas Day is the wrong day
to make actual delivery of a new pet.
Instead, why not just give a personal gift certificate -- one that
you draw yourself. You could limit it to a specific shelter (This
certificate good for one kitten from the XXX shelter; all fees and
expenses to be paid by ....) or be more general (This certificate
good for one kitten from any shelter or store in Eastern MA.) or
anything else you feel appropriate. If a piece of paper isn't enough
to satisfy your giving urge, throw in a litter box or a scratching
post or some other necessity.
Then, after Christmas, your friend can go alone or the two of you
can together share in the joy of picking out a pet. Besides, after
Christmas the shelters will start to fill up again, so you'll have
a larger selection (and there'll be a greater need for responsible
pet owners).

962.4 | A sure-fire way to get kittens who NEED a home | SAHQ::DCARNELL | EM David Carnell @RHQ/DTN 351-2901 | Thu Dec 17 1987 11:41 | 15 |

Here's a sure-fire way to get kittens, who need a home.
Start putting outside your home each day a fresh bowl of water and
a plate of dry cat food. Sooner or later, a homeless pregnant female
cat will show up and stay until her kittens are born.
In seven years, we've attacted four mom's who left us with many
kittens, some of whom we continue to gladly support.
Of course, if you need a kitten right away, I guess the best place
to check is the classified section of your local paper where you
can find someone who has kittens available, the source I'd suggest
over a pet store, since you can see the mother and other kittens.

962.5 | What about the ones in Note 415? | SMAUG::RIO | | Thu Dec 17 1987 17:08 | 25 |
| I will have to assume that you want a 6 week old kitten. Unfortunately
I have been looking for a home for a grey angora kitty that has
strayed to my door. Note 415 has several listings of people very
recently (mine included) who seem to have been ignored! I stated
there I wasn't sure this female was fixed, but after having to drag
her out of my house every morning to put her outside for the day,
I have to believe she was fixed. She looks like she once had a
collar. I just don't know how people can drop cats off at some
street and leave! Anyway, she is very good in the house, immediately
found my cats box and has consistently used it EVERY nite. I swear
she waits to come in to go! I would love to keep her, but would
rather give her to someone who can leave her in all day. She doesn't
get along with my cat and another stray (who I did adopt but can't
pin him down long enough to get him to a vet to be fixed!). Please,
if someone wants her, I'd be more than happy to give her to you.
I'm sure I'll get many responses saying keep her. But Spaz is already
feeling psychological effects of not having the house to herself
and assumes the Rambo position everytime she can attack Fluffy.
Anyway, go read note 415 and see if any of the announcements in
there are still available. Mine is.
